Adoption Support Group
Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.

Hi everyone My name is Jessica and I have been in the infertility support group for awhile, My DH and I have been ttc for 6 yr.'s now with no luck. So about a week ago we started seriously looking into some adoption agencies here in Michigan. If anyone has any advice at all I would greatly appreciate it. We are planning a meeting with a friend of mine's friend who adopted. And we had an angency call today to see if we had any questions. I also am waiting for an adoption info packet from another place. Right now we are just getting as much information as possible.
Any help you have would greatly appreciated :)

As an adoptee I really can't help but to say check each option out thoroughly, I can understand the anxiousness and wanting to move forward quickly but when things sound to good to be true they usually are and just from being on this site I've heard of a few people 'being scammed' GL and best wishes to you and your new family

We ended up adopting through our state DFYS. My son was in and out of foster care the first 4 years of his life. He is now 11. It took us about 2 1/2 years for our adoption to be final. It was very difficult and we had issues- ADHD, post traumatic stress disorder, reactive attachment disorder. But the transformation has been a miracle. He got his black belt in karate last year. I love the stuffings out of him. I would adopt again the same way in a heartbeat, but it is not for the faint of heart. I read many books, took parenting classes (some related to adoption and some were just regular parenting classes.) I also have a friend who was adopted. So we did everything we could to prepare ourselves. If you ever need to talk, send me a note. We tried to get preg for almost 7 years, ultimately tried IVF with no luck. We also went through marriage counseling. I think preparing yourself for whatever could possibly happen is the best advice. Every situation is different, but if you are ready for whatever comes along things will go much easier.

My husband and I have just recently started the adoption process after TTC for over 4 years. We are still in the process of completing all our paperwork. I'm hoping to have it all complete by the time we do our physicals. We are doing our homestudy through a private agency and we are going through a larger agency with her to adopt. I've called a couple of agencies and have not officially decided on one, but I was pleased with American Adoption out of Texas. They took the time to talk to me and are very upfront about their fees. Keep me posted on how things go

I would tell you to message me if you have any questions. I have had a wonderful experience with my adopted daughter Elizabeth. We are so happy with her and her personality. She is a great baby.
