Start by looking into the type of adoption that you want to do. Do you want to foster a child with hopes of adopting, do you want an international or domestic adoption? Once you have decided what type of adoption you are interested in persuing you need to either find an adoption agency or facilitator (some states do not allow the use of a facilitator).

I agree with treasures...start looking into adoption terms and different types of adoption, and then google agencies or lawyers in your area that specialize in the type of adoption you feel fits your needs best.

After we decided we were most interested in open infant domestic adoption, we found a local agency, and I made some posts on facebook asking if anyone had ever heard of them. I got some great feedback on their reputation from a couple friends who are social workers.

Adoption can feel very overwhelming, because it's not something you typically know about or talk about unless you've been through it or know someone close to you who has. But it's very doable and manageable. You just have to jump in. From the day we decided to adopt, to the day we began waiting to be matched, it was less than a year. as an adopted person please make sure that your new one knows as much info as you can provide for him/her so that later on the seeds are there if they then wish to find their real mum and that when it happens you give all the support you can. im sure at the end of the day adoptive mums will still be mum to the child and usually can benifit from the reunion as well good luck and lots of hugs as you persue your dream.

I was looking in the adoption as well. I was born in Russia so I was looking in oversea adoption. It more expensive but they promise a child with in a 9 - 12 month at home. Plus children in other countries, well at list in Russia, live in Orpehanages were they biological parents already give up all right to them, so it easier to adopt. I also liked the idea that no biological mother will be knocking on my door 5-10 years latter in wanted to have her child back.
