Ive tryed diz it wuz a very bad idea when i wuz lil my birth mom used ta write me i nbr got da leters cuz diz wasnt alloud it wuz a closed adoption on da acount da state took me from my birth peoples tryin ta get in contact wid my birth peoples wuz a dumb idea dey didnt want me any more den da peoples who adopted me i say u realy wana help ur husband u set up a meeting first wid hiz birth peoples if u can find dem wid ot dem knowin u can say like u used t live der when u were a kid my friend did dat 1 for hiz brother an after a while he felt like dey would good peoples an den he some how got dem talkin about der kids an if dey ever put 1 up for adoption see so it whent good for him yes he gots 2 mamas now an dey very good hiz birth mama spoils him wid cookies an stuff like dat an lil cards so he knows hiz mama loves him see so sum gose good a sum go bad try ta find ot if his adoption wuz opend or closed if opend it should b eazy contact da adoption agency were he wuz adopted at an ask dem use hiz case nuber or if u dont know use hiz birth certificate dat will help dem alot good luck

Luckily I do have a case number, but the adoption was closed.

If you are in the UK I know the Salvation Army help trace people. Apart from Facebook and Twitter I would suggest the electoral role? U usually have to pay for access to this.

Does your husband want to find his family? I never contacted my family, they actually contacted me. The way I always looked at things was - if they want to find me they will find me. And they did. I was the one who didnt really want contact if Im honest. I was happy with my life without them.

2yrs on Iam still not totally into the whole being in contact thing, its weird.

My husband wants to, but obviously has fears and is emotional about the subject. We are in the US, so the only thing I really know to do is to sign a consent form through the adoption agency stating that if the parents wish to make contact, they can. It's my understanding that they don't inform the family that the adoptee wishes to make contact.

Yes, in the US, you contact the adoption agency he went through. Both parties have to act before they will make contact. For instance my birth mom when i was 18 signed up saying she wanted to make contact (But they dont tell me)..When i was 22 i signed up to make contact with her...Since both of us agreed to contact they than gave out contact info to both of us. It was a good reunion for me. I really like my bio mom and spend quite a bit of time at her house- that an i board my horse on her farm, so it really worked out nice! Id say that is the best way to go if you don't want to upset your hubby...Because they will only make contact once birth mom and adoptee sign up. Good luck to you guys!

Thanks Pandy and i'm glad you were able to reunite with your own mother. I have the paperwork but it needs to be notarized. Although hubby says he wants to do it, he hasn't put forth the initiation to get these forms completed. I don't want to push him, but he has claimed that he wants to do it but is afraid and would like for me to do it for him.

Hubby decided to get them notarized and sent out next week. Wish us luck!

I started searching for my birthmum, beginning of the year. Because there are pieces missing out of my life. and I wanted to fill the pieces. Looking for your birth parents is quite an emotional road, for me it was. Good luck for your husband! I know it is important for adoptees to know where they came from.
