Adoption Support Group
Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.
I just wanted to commend you for your awareness of how your experience has affected and continues to affect you. I hope your future and the people you meet treat you with kindness and values your incredible strength.
God bless.
Godspeed,
Joe
My husband and I were foster parents, but we only ever fostered one child and then we adopted him. He is the light of our lives. He is 15 now. I know when he was growing up we would have our arguments and he spent some time in the time out corner, but I believe alot of parents would agree with me that those are typical consequences for bad behavior, like writing on walls, lying, stealing, being sent to the principal's office on a weekly basis, etc. I do regret yelling at him sometimes for things that were not that big of a deal now that I look back. I should have been more sensitive to his feelings considering everything he had been through already. Parents, bio or adoptive, make mistakes too, but what your foster family did to you is unacceptable and disgraceful. I hope you go to some counseling to be able to get some healing and closure in your life. And maybe one day, you might consider being a foster parent and giving some children a loving home that you were robbed of. By the way, are you close with your adoptive parents? Did you have a good life with them?
