I can relate! Just because you look into adopting or do adopt doesn't mean you are closing the door on trying to conceive. We finally decided we were meant to adopt and now that I am finally a mom I am still hoping to conceive some day. But I finally have a peace about it because i already ending up with the child meant to be mine! Our adoption experience was fast and wonderful! I know i didn't conceive all those years because I would have never ended up with my baby girl, who we adopted 9 months ago. We did a closed domestic adoption. I would explore your options, pray about it, and know that you will end up with the child meant to be yours. And that child may not be born under your heart, but in it.

Check with some local attorneys in your area - we have hired one whom girls call when they are considering adoption. She has a sort of "scrapbook" of us with pictures of us and a written "life story". She shows our profile to girls as they come in and they pick from ours and profiles that she has other other couples she represents. We have had one very close match and a few other almosts and we have only been at it for about six months. In this case you will get a private social worker and the expenses add up but no where near the cost of all of the fertility stuff we have paid for at this point.

Also, check with your state child protection agency - we just started the fostering parenting classes through them. We hope to foster to adopt - so many foster kids ultimately become available for adoption. This is actually the cheapest route because the state picks up the cost of all of the home studies, backgroud checks, time spent in court - there is not out of pocket expense if you adopt through the state.

Call the child protection office in your county. Every county has one. Ask for the adoption/foster parenting coordinator - they will have a person or maybe more than one in charge of that. They will tell you what you need to do to get the ball rolling - all states are different but mine has us starting with a home study, background checks and foster parenting classes. The classes are once a week for ten weeks. After that we will be on a foster parenting list and will be called as that need presents itself. We can decline any child that they call us abouot if we don't feel comfortable. Many times the social worker will be able to tell us when they call if they see adoption in the child's future - that is the type of child we would like to foster, since we ultimately want to adopt.
