we have our annual iep this thurs. my son has shown improvements since starting OT this year. his OT suggests some additional excersize/movement at intervals during the day. obviously this is to much of a burden on his teacher to do 2-3x daily. i want to request and aide and wondered if one way to go about it is better then another? any input?
I believe that the school is required to provide an aide or para if the child is in need or has an IEP.
My youngest son is 6 and was adopted at 4 years of age from another country. He did not speak any English and was very delayed. When he went to school at 5 years old, the school was required to give him a full time para professional - an aide who would be his ELL (English Language Learner).
Go directly to the school principal or school superindendent and ask them. If they don't cooperate - contact a child advocate group - they specialize in knowing the rights of all children.
