My Psych. took me off my ADD med. because I have an eating disorder and she fears this is making it worse even though I have gained weight back. I am having terrible withdrawal, anxiety, inability to concentrate and focus, missed work Friday because of the problems it is causing, as I can hardly function, feeling out of it, headaches, depressed and the list goes on, I wonder if anyone else has experienced this and how long it took to pass...I put a call into her Friday, but, although the office insisted she would get back to me and after repeated calls she never did....I was left hanging...she isn't normally irresponsible in this way. I have a few of the meds left, and thought I would restart it, then call her first thing on Monday. Just looking for any information anyone might be able to provide first hand.

Our son just finished eating disorder treatment in the fall, all while being on 72 mg. of Concerta. Are you in a treatment program? If so, get in with an eating disorder nutritionist, who can help you develop a strategy for eating more and counteracting the appetite drop that can happen with stimulants. Our son's team was successful in helping him while on ADHD medication and he has surpassed his goal weight now. It's not easy, but you can relearn to eat throughout the day, even when you're not hungry. Our son now WANTS to eat throughout the day, because his brain is used to the pattern of eating all the time.

P.S. Any time I hear a doctor pulling someone off of necessary ADHD medication because of appetite issues, I want to scream! If our 11-year-old son can overcome an eating disorder where he fears food and gain weight while on ADHD medications, anyone can keep their weight up. You just need to have the right guidance from the medical professionals about how and what to eat.

Thanks for replying, I am currently under the care of a Nutrionist who speciaIlizes in eating disorders...it really has not been all that helpful though...I got into big trouble with Vyvanse, but was eventually transistioned to a higher dose of Concerta, then later had the dose dropped due to the eating disorder, however I am managing it pretty well, and really need the medication. I am threw the worst of the withdrawal now, but, have to deal with my symptoms. Again thank you for the advice I truly appreciate it. I am glad your son is doing well.

I'm sorry your nutritionist isn't as helpful as ours was for our son. Best of luck to you with everything. It sounds like you're on the right track with your eating disorder and I applaud you for that. I know that alone is very hard work.

Hi, I am new to the forum and was wondering how you are doing on the Concerta. I am going through EXACTLY what you did in June. Currently 40 lbs underweight, seen a nutritionist, and have several doctors giving opinions on gaining weight. They make it sound so easy.
