ADHD / ADD Support Group
Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD) are more common than you might think. It is a syndrome that exhibits symptoms such as hyperactivity, forgetfulness, mood shifts, poor impulse control, and distractibility. Join others who suffer from these conditions and share your experiences.
I recall in first grade and thereafter teachers saying I had difficulty following directions, and lost many gloves, jackets, etc.
First, I can't buy into the neurological problem analysis. Note, what we call ADHD is normal in many ways today. Imagine talking to someone and they could not look you in the eye, and fiddled with something, trying to various things when you were trying to hold a conversation. That is texting today. 20 years ago, it would be abnormal behavior.
The average teenager apparently texts over 500 times a month.
Thus, there are serious questions about drugs and medication. I would recommend the following.
1. Develop organizational skills Teach him how to keep things in the same place, write down dates, and plan ahead.
2. Recognize limited attention and make your point ADHD is peculiarly a male issue, with boys and men 5-10 times more likely to have it.
Prolonged and repetitive comments are turned off.
