My sister had the same problem when she was on her adhd medication. She has been off of it for a couple of years now because she has learned how to work through her adhd. She also likes her personality better when she is off of it. She is more spunky.
However, when she was on it she was detached from people and stated that she felt depressed. Since, you are still new to the medication it will take you a while to figure out how it works. She would only take it when she really needed to concentrate.
My advice would be to stick it out for a while until you get used to it and then see if there is a different kind of routine you want to use. Such as only using it on a day when you're at school or want to get work done. Hopefully, your girlfriend understands what you're going through and will stick it out with you.
My shrink would not perscribe ritalin and she said this is why: I would get all my computer work done, be successful, become addicted to ritalin for life, and all the while hate my life because life is for living emotionally and not for working with dulled senses just trying to be rich.
i think she made the right move, but you're young enough i'd say don't listen to me, at your age i had diff. priorities. Get rich!
Now had I been on this in highschool, I don't think I'd have ever gotten a date or a friend!
It's a dilemma.
What you are feeling is perfectly normal. Your doctor may need to adjust your meds at your next appointment. I could not cry for a long time. I did not laugh. I would say if something happened to someone I was close with, I would not be able to cry. My son was 5 and my sister had to play with him. Because I just could not. This to will pass.
