I'm a 21 year old diagnosed with ADHD(combined type), and recently switched meds from Ritalin ER to Ritalin IR due to a refusal of insurance to pay for an increase of dose for the ER. I love how the IR gives me better focus & calms me down, but comes with a terrible crash. I'm only prescribed two pills a day, and find myself wiped by 3 in the afternoon. I'm very moody, and irritable when it wears off.
I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem, and if they know of any better meds to try. Is there any regimens with taking IR ritalin to try to help last throughout the day to avoid crashing early in the day? Thanks!

Also, I wanted to taper down my dosage till I can just take the meds when I feel I need to. I'd imagine I will experience some withdrawal symptoms for a little period of time being I started taking the new med about 2 weeks ago. Any ideas/advice on how to deal with symptoms of withdrawal while cutting back? Thanks again!
I used to be on adderall XR and even then had much of the same problems. I would crash around 2 if I took the medication early and it was awful. My doctor switched me to Vyvanse and it has had amazing results. It is an adderall based medication but does not turn into adderall until metabolized by the body. The result is a medication activity that last most of the day and has more of a plateau effect instead of bell curve. I.E. less of temporary "high" and more of a constant effect.
I dont believe they have a similar ritalin based product but if you respond well to adderall, Vyvanse is defiantly worth a try!

The only issue is the longevity of it. I'm on 70 MG and I take it about 8 AM and by 1 or 2 it seems to slowly peter out. I talked to my doc and he suggested splitting my capsule and doing half in the AM and half in the early PM. I been doing it for a couple of days and so far so good.
