Addison's Disease Support Group
Addison's disease (also known as chronic adrenal insufficiency, or hypocortisolism) is a rare endocrine disorder. It is estimated that it affects about 1 to 2 in 100,000 people. It occurs when the adrenal glands, seated above the kidneys, fail to produce enough of the hormone cortisol and, sometimes, the hormone aldosterone
I know, you're right about the testing. I just wonder if somewhere down the road, something might be invented to help us stay a bit more on an even keel. I'm no doubt dreaming.
I used to be so very patient, though! I'm only glad I raised my daughter before I started taking the steroids...I shudder to think of the mom I'd be, now! Sigh...
i'm hoping to start having kids soon!
i know exactly what you guys are talking about.
my new endo told me that i might actually have
BOTH ... since i'm secondary addison's, i guess
maybe i could have secondary addy's from prime
cushings? he had lots of lab work done, and i'm
STILL waiting to find out - a good two months
later. though in the meantime he's doubled my
cortef, so i'm thinking it's a no ..? and yet, i look
like an oompa loompa. ah, the irony.
do you know the symptoms of cushings?
why won't it all just GO AWAY!?!?!?!
I'm a big help, I didn't mean to scare you for having children! As we're often saying, every case is different, as we all have our unique systems, and degrees of health issues. One thing that I KNOW contributes to my anxiety and impatience, is that I am the sole caregiver for my elderly dad...a very deaf dad! He's wonderful most of the time, but there is that added stress of not living the my life how I want to. And I'm sure the steroids contribute to some of my stress, but probably not all.
I found a few of the Cushings symptoms, and I sure have some...the chunk in the middle (ack!) and the thin skin and anxiety. It's so hard, isn't it? You don't know which side your bouncing into, when you just want to be in the middle!!! =/
(Oompa Loompa, huh?) ;]
