does anyone have a problem with mast cells? when I was diagnosed with IC three years ago the urologist said that my mast cells were totally out the roof!! he said that something was really funky with my immune system....well yeah. I was diagnosed with AD 10 years ago.
my problem is I think the mast cells are causing me to have a terrible cough then gag and sometimes throw up.
yes I do know this is crazy but I have had so many crazy things happen health-wise that I am just getting tired of the fight. between IC along with AD it seems I always feel bad one way or the other.
sorry to complain and whine just hope somebody can give me some ideas about mast cells.
last thing I will say is the doctor says if you take your medication this should be normal......well I certainly have not found that to be true. it sounds good on paper but hard to really live with.

Hi Sheri, I do not have a problem with mast cells now but am familiar with their job, good or bad in the body. It definitely seems like the terrible cough may be related to having too many mast cells causing increased mucus resulting in your cough, gagging and vomiting. This must be so difficult for you since vomiting is one thing none of us Addisonians want. You didn't say whether you have food allergies which can increase mast cells if the food are not eliminated from you diet. I have celiac disease plus allergies to eggs, walnuts and floride. If I do not keeps these out of my diet I have symptoms very similar to yours. Following an anti-inflammatory diet may help these symptoms.

I know there are certain types of Mast Cell activation disorders (saw it on my Dysautonomia board). If your Mast cells are 'off the chart' as it were, you might need to be evaluated for these disorders. Here is something on the web I found about it:

Hi Sheri. I remember reading a book on food allergies and it mentioned controlling mast cells with 2 supplements. One was cayenne. The other was quercetin 1000mg. a day. but should not be used by someone with a liver disorder. I have used both of these and they seem to help control excess histamine.

thank you all for the feedback. I don't have any food allergies that I am aware of. one reason I don't think its food is because it happens at all different times. I also really lose my voice when I get very tired. such strange things go on with my health.....just take it a day at a time.
I appreciate you taking the time to reply to me. I will check out the website mentioned.
