Addison's Disease Support Group
Addison's disease (also known as chronic adrenal insufficiency, or hypocortisolism) is a rare endocrine disorder. It is estimated that it affects about 1 to 2 in 100,000 people. It occurs when the adrenal glands, seated above the kidneys, fail to produce enough of the hormone cortisol and, sometimes, the hormone aldosterone
I just feel like I'm caught up in a " sea of despair". That I can't seem to get out of and its all due to Addison's. My daughter asked what I wanted for my birthday on Wedensday and I said I just want this Addison's disease to go away. I wish it would.
My kind MD gave me Nystatin over the phone. My endo wouldn't prescribe anything. Can you believe it? She gave me the steroids that made me sick , she should fix it.
Any one out there know if seroquel would be a good idea for me since I am having such a difficult time with dealing with all of this??
I know Xanax makes me feel better, especially when my cortisol is low. I wonder why?
I am afraid to fly , so can no lie , have diaherra on the plane like 20 times. One time, no lie, an airline stewardess handed me an immodium , asking me if I was ok because I was in the bathroom so much.
Since I got a yeast infection in my vagina and mouth my endo only wants me to double my dose for stress. This doesn't sound right ? Does this sound right to anyone? Originally she said to triple it and NOW ONLY double it! Wouldn't you question that? I did in an email and she ignored me. I have an appointment on Friday . Is she going to ignore my questions in person, too? Thanks in advance for all the support and kind words trying to navigate this disease.
Tammi69, if you feel like your endo is not listening to you, you might want to look for another one. When I was diagnosed, I was in a smaller area and was the only Addison's patient in the office of 11 endos. I felt like an experiment and I think I scared them a little. I am now in Atlanta and my endo has about almost two dozen Addison's patients so she is much more helpful and knowledge for me! She gave me this website for more information on Addison's just yesterday at my check-up. I keep a journal of every day, how I felt, if I stress-dosed, my mood, if I ate anything weird, or anything out of the ordinary. It has really helped her to keep me level, along with my labs. Good luck, this is definitely a journey I didn't plan on going on. :)
