I just read that you should get an IV 100 mg before the surgery and that should cover it.
I should have googled before posting here.

Hi, I'm Lezleyshearts to you, read my journal, explaining everything that happened to me, regards my operation, it's not to scare you but, to make you aware what could happen.i took every step I could, to make sure I would be ok, but, it didn't go to plan owing to the FACT THEY DONT UNDERSTAND, or listen, they thought I was exaggerating my requests, and I was making a meal out of nothing. THANK YOU LEZLEY! I read your journal and I'm so glad I did. I had read about things like that happening years ago when I was diagnosed and starting researching AD. that was in 2003. this will be the first surgery I have had since being diagnosed. I am putting it off until May because of family reasons.
I have been in the hospital twice because of AD....call it crisis or whatever. one time instead of very love BP mine was out the roof it was so high.

What kind of surgery are you having? I think a big question is if you should be in the hospital the night before starting the IV steroids really depends on how stable your health has been in the last 6 months. If you are feeling really good I would think that starting the steroids before the surgery you would be fine. I would start stress dosing at 3 days before the surgery.

I was really sick for ten months. I then scheduled a minor surgery, cyst removal, 2nd time, and the doctor refused to put me to sleep the 2nd time. So I just did my emergency injection kit and I was fine. But I did have to wait for my health to improve to have the surgery.

Talk to your endo and have them coordinate with your surgeon. Good luck.

the surgery I will be having is router cuff (not sure of the spelling) on my shoulder. I have been having so much pain and have lost range of motion there.
I also lately was sent to a rheumatologist because I had a positive RF blood test. I have been having terrible pain with my neck, elbows, ribs, and knees mainly. I can't even sleep at night for it.
I don't know about anybody else with AD but anything that comes against me always gets worse before it gets better.
I had a bad night and my husband said I kept him up moaning last night. today I feel so weak and exhausted but that is just what we live with.
I think that's why I dread having any surgery done!!
before the surgery I will see my endo. but because of taking care of a family member I have to put it off for a while.
I hate to talk to my family about all my health pains and woes....I just don't that's why I am here whining to you guys. thanks for listening!

Hi, Sherri7, just finished reading your last piece, I too had a rotated cuff injury, feel down stairs at work, pain is dreadful, feels like screwdriver is being drilled into it. also the arm would turn blue and i couldn't breathe right, they thought it was a clott at first, but, because it was in pain, with the injury, I knew it was just that. I went down acupuncture route, through private Chinese clinic, spent a lot, cupping too. It worked for a while. Cold made it worse, air con etc, draft.
I feel a lot better with it, I get odd days here and there, I try not to lift ark-ward, did you try steroid injections in shoulder?, what surgery is he doing? Hope everything goes well. :)x

I have had surgery . I would suggest you make it EXTREMELY clear that you need Solu-Cortef 100 mgm IV to cover your steroid requirements during surgery. Emphasize that the Solu-Cortef is a sodium sparing steroid, which addresses the sodium wasting that those with Addison's have.
When I had surgery I was given another steroid and suffered from shock with negative consequences for my kidney function.
Other than that, I recovered rapidly with increased steroids for a few days.

thank you all for all the help. I will be seeing the doc after I get back from vacation in 3 weeks. my husband wanted me to go before then but we haven't had a vacation in 4 years. I take care of his mom who has Alzheimer's....I love her dearly but that takes a toll.
