His doc did not really say how high they would have to be, but he mentioned that they could infuse him with some while they were performing the BMB. I am suppose to be in contact with him on the 20th to let him know what his platelet count is then. Have not heard of PCR test. With the past consolidations, David's doc seemed to want him to have the next consolidation asap, as if there was some sort of timeline he had to do it in. His count today was 8 again so he was infused again with another bag. He is not scheduled to go back to the lab until Wednesday. Thank you again for your replies. It helps so much to talk to someone who understands and has been through it. I am going to look up and read about the PCR test.

I am so grateful to have found this thread. My husband was diagnosed in Dec with a favorable subtype. He tolerated the induction well and has been home now for 5 weeks. His recent BMB detected no blasts. He feels great but his first consolidation chemo has been delayed three times already because his numbers aren't high enough (platelets ~ 80, wbc ~ 1.5, rbc ~ 3). We are meeting with the doctor tomorrow and I think she will recommend a stem cell transplant. We learned he has low vitamin D which may affect platelet formation so he's now supplementing. You have each given me some hope that he might still be ok.

You should have hope if your husband has a favorable subtype and your doctor recommends a stem cell I would highly recommend a second opinion because my consolidation session took twice as long as the average you can read the link to my post about platelets I platelets never reached 80 and I been in remission nearing 5 years since diagnosis so please don't go the stem cell transplant proud until at least to get a second opinion slow count heavily is to more common than they say.
