It is so wonderful to hear that you were able to enjoy this celebration with your family - really, what is better than that? I'm not kidding when I say a five hour drive would not be feasible for me and I'm a 43 year old w/out AML. I am totally impressed by your stamina! I've just watched my own seniors graduate (I am a high school teacher), and know that it meant the world to your granddaughter to have you there.

Your post is so encouraging to me, and I want to thank you for sharing it. May you enjoy many, many more such occasions with the people you love.

Thank you all. This life event was made even more special sharing it with you all. Before AML, I made that trip to Portland quite often. We are from Portland, so lots of friends and family.
My husband couldn't get away from our business that long, so I went alone. He didn't like it, but finally agreed. Making that trip alone made me feel almost back to normal. not much stamina left at the end. But I did it!
I brought two grandchildren home with me. A 15 y/o and a 4 y/o. But now I am really exhausted. I think I have pushed it too hard. I am ready for Mom to take them home.

My daughter got married in October and I felt privileged to have been able to be the mother of the bride, with VERY short hair, but well enough. I appreciate my life's events so much more now and that makes every day special.

This is what our fight is all about. To go back to our life and enjoy. It is possible. I know when I was in the depths of treatment, I felt like I was in H... It seemed like it would never end. But it has and I am still in remission. Time does pass, and we do get better. I am forever changed though. I hear the same from all of you. Life is much more precious. Not much is taken for granted. I was thrilled to watch my grand daughter receive her diploma. She came up to where I was sitting before the ceremony started and told me how much she loved me and how grateful she was I could come. My AML has touched others lives as well.

Renate, Your heart must have burst with happiness sharing in your daughters special day. My hair was long before AML. Now I have decided to keep that very short hair. I like it.
