Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Keir is at day 17 post induction, this is the third full week in the hospital. He had his bone marrow biopsy Wed. afternoon and is still waiting on results. Since it's a weekend, apparently the earliest we are likely to hear (barring some miracle - a pathologist showing up unexpectedly) is Monday.
Everything is kind of in suspended animation. His counts remain quite low and he is having some fatigue but otherwise all looks very good. His hair is falling out, and he's having a little bit of sadness over that small loss but knows it will grow back and is fine, really.
We are trying very hard to keep as busy as possible. Having some insurance hassles (I am sure that is not a shock to all of you!) but we can't worry about any of that. I'm finding it a little hard to deal with people who seem to assume that his diagnosis is doom; I guess I'm too new to this myself to be able to guard against the negative types.

I am praising God for this outstanding news. How fabulous#!!! Before amli was I'm you club. I worried that the sun would forget to come up tomorrow. After aml I learned to live by Psalms 46:10 be still and know I am God. Of course I still worry but I turn it over to Good because I simple can't endure the sheer weight of it all. Also Dave will recommend you read Matthew 6:25. Another verse that puts things in perspective for me is Ecclesiastes 7:14 when times are good be happy but when times are bad consider: GOD has made the one as well as the other. Therefore a man cannot discover any thing about his future.
