Andy my mom had the transplant in MDANDERSON for AML she is now 1 year 1 month full remission and recovering. The only advice that I can give you is the following. You will have good days and bad days try not to focus in the bad days and put all your effort in the good days for example some days you will no feel like eat anything but there will be days when you will feeling to eat try to get the most out of those days so when you not eating you still doing ok. Please do not let bad days put your self down. Remember it looks like a never ending tunnel but believe me you will see the end of the tunnel. God bless you in this journal.

Prayers for a successful transplant and speedy recovery for both of you. Hopefully the delay will allow you to get stronger and prepared for the procedure. I think of you both daily and know you are in good hands.

Andy, that is a great attitude, it is Gods plan and his timeline for all of us. I know for myself that having Cancer taught me a whole lot of patience.

I had a lot of frustration through the process, some of it unnecessary, at least in my mind. My coordinator did not seem to have the sense of urgency that I had, or really any sense of urgency at all. I had to coax things along more than I would have liked. If they are not serving you as they should be, don't hesitate to "coaxing" things along. It is their job to take care of you and all the details that go along with the transplant, you are entrusting them with your life. Hopefully I am way off base and they are not neglecting getting your process moving. With mine I felt they were.

It is good to go in rested and ready, physically and spiritually. And with the least stress possible. And it sounds like the extra time may help with that.

Wanted to add that I think this whole experience is going to help you so much when you become a PA. You have the patients perspective now, and I believe that is the Lords plan for you. You have a gift to give to all of your future patients, you just need to get by this bump in the road to your very bright future. God bless you and your sister.

So I talked to my coordinator this evening and it looks like I will be admitted November 2nd and my new birthday (rebirth, transplant date, whichever term works best for you haha) will be November 9th. Tomorrow starts all the work up and tests that need to be done prior to that date for both myself and my sister.

Continue to keep us in your prayers (as you have been doing so diligently!) as we now get down to the fine tuning of this process!

Hi Andy,
You've gotten a lot of great advice here. I'll have my 1 year post SCT tomorrow. It's been a rough year, but I hear each one gets better. Slow but steady progress.

When I went "in" my family helped decorate my room with pictures on the walls, a great big JJ Watt Fathead on my room door, and holiday decorations. Whatever works for you. Looking at the pics made me feel better on those rough days.

Also, after, be very mindful of germs. Unfortunately you will be getting out in the middle of winter/cold season. Carry hand sanitizer with you everywhere.
