Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

I just spoke with Laarissa who just received some alarming news- just two weeks after her 100 day BMB showed clean and 100% donor, leukemia blasts have been detected in her peripheral blood.
Her Onc is perplexed because her counts are well within the normal range. He stopped her tacrolimus (sp) and has scheduled her for a BMB on Tuesday. To recap her history, she just turned a young 73, is very healthy. She was FLT 3 positive.
Please, please pray for her.

So sorry. I know how upsetting this is. My brother got a good report at 100 day point after BMT. Then the blasts were back. He too is Flt 3. He was on trial 2215 before BMT and did well on it. Plan when he relapsed in Dec was to go back on 2215 with booster marrow at two months. He is almost at the 2 months and in a holding pattern. He still needs blood and platelets but his hair is back and he is doing ok. Drove the other day.
Has anyone mentioned being part of this trial? If not, ask. I think this Flt3 inhibitor has great potential.

I spoke with Larissa yesterday after her bmb. She will get her results tomorrow, please pray. Her labs show that the blasts in her peripheral blood have increased from 8 to 25%. Strangely her counts are excellent to include platelets and anc. Your prayers are appreciated

This has to be a real shock to her as it is to all of us. She is still technically in the MDS range, but any type of relapse at this stage is not at all good. Hopefully they will come up with a treatment that will not involve more rounds of chemo. Did she already have a transplant? For sure I will be praying for her as I know all who read this will be as well. Thanks for keeping us up on her situation -- daveB
Yes Larissa is just over the day 100 point. Two weeks ago she was 100% donor and leukemia free. Thankt you for the prayers

Larissa met with her med team yesterday who confirmed relapse. She is on shock. Palliative care was one option presented but thankfully a trial is available. She was not sure of the name of the trial other than it cd white cells??? She starts the trial on Monday and is focused on staying optimistic. As always, she is grateful for your prayers.
