Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

This morning Jamie's platelets are at 41,000 and his hemoglobins 7.1 both up from yester without any transfusions of either. The doctor was in this morning and said if we continue this way he will get to go home by the middle of next week. Jamie has been given a phentanol patch for pain he is still having in his chest as a result of last weeks episodes. He has mentioned having a short attention span I was wondering if it is from the patch or is this the chemo fog I have read about and if it is that how long does that last.

Its probably a combo of both. Check the side effects of the phentanol but I wouldn't worry touch about it. This is not what you want to hear but I still have chemo brain moments. And its been 4 months since I had any chemo..

Glad Jamie is doing so well. One step closer to putting this behind and a normal life for you both. Praying for remission and no complications.

I'm six months from my last chemo and as fuzzy as ever. This does not stop me from working full time I just have cut myself some slack in regards to cognitive quickness. So glad Jamie is on the mend and close to being paroled :-)

yeah!!!! great work :) its so scary waiting for those figures to come up :)

Try and keep him isolated / l,ow bacteria diet and walking more and more whilst he is home.

You would ideally need to try and build his strength up without gaining any new infections :)

I am 2.5 years from completion of chemo and I still experience chemo fog.This doesn't stop me functioning however I am not as quick.My job is very analytical and I struggle with this sometimes .I need to concentrate harder and cannot multi task as well as I did before. If this is going to be my only "battle scar" then I am happy.
