Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

MD Anderson

I'm hoping to get any info on MD Anderson. My sister 65 yrs old with AML was told no more chemo because it's not working, but I contacted MD Anderson, sent medical records and they have agreed to take her. Hopefully we can get her there ASAP. We have to arrange a hospital to hospital transfer as she is to weak and sick to go without one. Any info, stories and feedback would be appreciated.

So glad she is there now. Keep us posted on what they say today. Unfortunately, not a lot happens on the weekend (skeleton crew) but I think the Leukemia doctor, Dr. O'Brien is on call right now. She is really good.

Glad she made it there. They will help her like no one else can. My boss went there 16 years ago for cancer that no one else would treat and he is alive and well today because of them.

Just read about your sister. I am glad she is at MDA. Great place and they will treat her well. Like Lou, I was treated at Sloan Kettering. These are all the top places for leukemia and there are several others as well. Being at a good center for treatment is half of the battle.

Please give my best to your sister. Stay strong. It actually gets easier as time goes on.

My sister Barb arrived on Friday and was admitted to floor 12. Dr said her main issue here is weakness, they did a bone marrow biopsy today to determine where she's at. We are praying for good news regarding treatment hopefully tomorrow. I will keep you posted. Thanks all!

Thanks for starting this thread (although it's a bit old now). I am glad your sister made it to mda and I hope she's doing well. I'd love to hear her story. I arrived in Houston about two weeks ago seeking new treatment options. I'm on the 16th floor if you're still around. I'm 29, relapsed aml. Docs are deciding which trial will best help me achieve remission again so that eventually I can have a transplant.
