Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
After five weeks, my brother is finally home after transplant. I know he has to visit the hospital once a week and still has visiting nurses. In general, however, what is the procedure from here? I don't usually go to doctors with him and am curious. Will there be routine BMT or just blood work to monitor the numbers? And hate to be dumb, but what are the important numbers to watch? I have some vague idea but the understanding on here is so much more than I have. Any help in this new post-transplant world will be appreciated.
He did have a lot of trouble with mouth and throat issues plus diarrhea but this road was not nearly as bad as his first go around after initial discovery.

I am a believer that this is totally in God's hands. He is the first one to thank because all we do for each other is really His use of us for his plan. The docs and all are great but only as great as He allows.

Thank you. I posted in another thread on transplant updates. Bro seems to be taking baby steps in the right direction, I am not with him at check ups and all he says is docs are pleased and numbers good. He is not a talker.
I just lost a dwarf friend to brain cancer and this past month has been consumed with his hospice, death, funeral, and finding a foster for his dog. I simply could not handle this site for a few weeks.
