Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Thanks to everyone so far with their encouraging support with my mums recent diagnosis.
had the consultant around this morning as we have been waiting on the Genetics Markers for the past 2 weeks and have been told the following
" He said they were unable to grow cultures from her marrow and have done it from my blood which shows a problem with monocromo 7 "
They say that it is in the higher risk section with not such a good prognosis (not sure if that last "prognosis" thing was my mum throwing it in or the consultant).
He said they will do another two rounds of chemo ( she is just in the induction phase) and see where we go from there...
I know this is a hard road but looking for any hope out there ?

I got through induction and 3 consolidations with no infections. Not one. So I know it is possible. My biggest problem was way to low platletts.
I live 275 miles from the hospital I received treatment from. We had to move our RV to the area for six months. Because I also was going in every other day when dishcharged. Such a hassle. But it does pass. I have been home 8 months now. So far still in remission.
