Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

I was active on here two years ago when I was going through chemo for AML, and as life got back to normal I came here less and less. My health has been okay, though in my 6-month checkup four weeks ago my blood test was funny--neutrophils were down against leucocytes, and white cells down in general.
I went back to the oncologist today, and the numbers were even funnier--neutrophils still down and also platelets.
So my oncologist wants me to have a bone marrow biopsy in the next few days. Of course we hope this is not the return of AML. That will mean a bone marrow transplant. Fortunately my blood type has many matches so I would not have to wait long if I need a BMT.
Of course I'm very concerned about this. I don't know how many of you have gone through anything similar and can shed some light here.

You were DXd just three months prior to me. I am also chemo only with my last consolidation in Nov 2013. I have recently had lower counts all within the low range but lower. All except my platelets which have always been low. I have labs months rather than every six months.
Can I ask what your numbers were? You are blessed to know you have plenty of matches just in case. I have never been tested and hope to never be. Praying this is just a small speed bump and not relapse. Do you have any additional testing like a PCR. I have that every other month to check for Inversion 16. With NP1+ that may not be an option.

As you are well aware, the BMB will be the definitive test. I pray you tolerate those well-I I have very little discomfort with the procedure and had many due to slow count recovery throughout consolidation. Where are you treated and do you get results of BMB pretty quickly? My family will add your situation specifically to our prayer list. My ten year old, Trinity is a true prayer warrior and already has your name.

Where are you being treated now? I was initially at Sparrow in Lansing but had my transplant at Karmanos in Detroit. University of Michigan also has a transplant program, and I think Henry Ford has just started a program. Being in Kzoo it may make more sense to be treated in Chicago if it comes to that. Hopefully it does not.
If you need anything, please ask, I live near Lansing. I'll be praying for NO RELAPSE!!

Unfortunately the news is not good. The leukemia is coming back. I will have to go back into the hospital in another week for chemo. Then I will probably have to go to another hospital for the BMT. Probably U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor.
I'll let everyone here know as things develop.

I am so sorry to read this. You have been and continue to be in my prayers. What did the onc day regarding your relapse after the 2 plus year mark?
