Oh, my gosh, how upsetting! I have heard of this happening, though, and I can't think of a case where a suitable donor wasn't found eventually. Hope plan B comes together very quickly! Will be thinking of you and your husband.

I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I cannot imagine the disappointment and despair that you are feeling. You must remain strong though and believe that another donor will surface quickly. I will be praying for you and your husband and for God's perfect timing.

We are very fortunate that he has numerous other confirmed matches but now we know that since he will be going into the hospital for chemo tomorrow that it will be several weeks to recover from that and then on to the bone marrow transplant process again. Just frustrated and disappointed but it is what it is so we will just roll with it and keep moving forward. Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement it helps more than words can say.

That was maddening, but at least your husband has other donor prospects in the wings. Speed bump...that's all, but it should not take long for another good donor to come through. All they need to do is contact him/her. Stay calm, because all will work out.

Lindzee -- Lori is having similar problems, although not caused by a lack of donors. I guess they are going to play it like another consolidation round just to keep any relapse at bay. Yes, it seems like when it rains it pours, but keep us up on any news on this. Was there some reason that the onc wanted to have another round at this point? Seems like his chances of a relapse win just a week or so should not be that great, and they usually do another round just prior to the transplant. I think his doctor's fear was with the holidays it may take time to get one of his other matched donors set up and he didn't want to see a relapse. they're very happy with how my husband is doing and I think they want to keep him ready to go once they can get the timing set up with a new donor I know that he has at least three to four other confirmed matches and I am pretty sure they're all males in their early twenties so I'm guessing perhaps if they're in college with the winter break they could be home for the holidays. We are frustrated by the news but we don't have any other choice but to keep moving forward. thank goodness we both have a sense of humor at a certain point all you can do is laugh. I keep telling my husband soon he'll have the immune system of a young frat boy. :) Back to the hospital tomorrow, but at least they don't mess around they get things going and they get them going fast. no one to blame it just is what it is

My first donor fell through also, but they found another on the next try. I believe they will for your husband too. The consolidation is just insurance policy to make sure he is ready to go when a donor comes through. So sorry that it happened, it is so very disappointing but I know a donor is waiting out there to give!

Lindzee -- you have a great attitude about it. I wonder how Satan feels when he takes his best shot and we can laugh at him and say -- not this time guy -- you're not going to get the best of me this time. Keep that positive attitude -- it cannot help but rub off on your husband. My wife used to talk about what we were going to do when I got out and all I could think of was -- what? you really think I am ever going to get out of here? Well, she was right and I was wrong, but I went along with it and it definitely helped me pull through. Keep fighting -- maybe a week is all you will lose -- dave

Lindzee, I completely understand how upsetting and scary delays can be but as the many wise people on here warned and assured me, they are able to be overcome and so will your husband's. Who knows - maybe there is some reason for the delay that God knows but we don't. In any case, they WILL find another donor and things will proceed.

I am saddened to read this, but I also believe things happen for a reason. I have had a few hiccups and retrospectively it was all ok and worked out. I am praying the delay is minimal and I am sorry you are even going through this right now. I know the idea of more chemo is awful. I waited from last August 2012 until January 2013 for the transplant plan to unfold while have chemo and 2 clinical trials. Between all of my treatments, pre and post transplant, this is my longest stretch in 18 months of not being neutropenic (late Oct to now) and chemo always made me sick, so I get it.
