Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Such amazing news that your husbands AML is in remission-savor this moment, REMISSION! That is such great news! That coupled with a 95% reduction in his spinal tumors-what a blessing. I'm praying as the pressure from the tumors subsides he will regain feeling/movement.
You two are so young and have so much life to live, I pray God's divine intervention in his healing and recovery. Thank you so much for the update and please keep us posted. Praying for you daily.
Blessings,
Julie
I don't think this is anything to worry about. My mums treatment was 3 rounds of chemo and inbetween was 2 weeks at home recovering.
During the 2 weeks recovering however we did make sure that mum was still on the low bacteria diet, she walked a little every day and each day was a little further than the next.... kept up her water intake and made sure she did her deep breathing exercises.
After the 2 weeks she had rebuilt some strength to take on the next round. We repeated this after the 2nd round for the 3rd.
I honestly thought that the norm was most treatment's were an induction (1 round of chemo) and then either 2 or 3 rounds of consolidation

Thought I would give an update on my husband. The doctors advised us last week that he is the first person to survive the type of chemo they gave him at the hospital. Puts many things into perspective. He was so sick and I think as close to death as I ever want to see someone. Basically apparently they said that they could try the regular stuff and he would probably die or hit is hard and probably die. I wish they would have told me this earlier as I knew something did not seem right. Kyle said that he thought the doctor had communicated this to me.... anyway.
So they recommended 3 rounds of consolidation. the first lot was causing additional spinal swelling and he was loosing more feeling. But other side effects were pretty good.
round 2, not so good. He has mucasitus.Blood counts are taking forever to recover and he passed out on me in the garden in his wheel chair due to low blood pressure. I thought he had a stroke!! :(
So it seems the paralysis is permanent, we decided to go with the rounds of chemo to get it done before rehab since he can't come home anyway. Plus it means not having to have his line taken in and out and transported back and forth. We are hoping it will knock some time off things towards the end.
Doesn't look like he will be home for Christmas as this rate and at this stage has been admitted to hospital since the13/01/2014. I guess things are looking as good as they can be for the time being.
Please do believe in the power of prayer, i have said it before and will again, i believe that is the only reason I am alive today. I dont know how i could have made it through this without my lord and savior Jesus Christ. You are both in my prayers, praying to get him out of that wheelchair.

I found out this week that there is only a 20% chance that the AML won't return. After all of this, I bloody well hope that Kyle is in the 20%!!
19 weeks in the hospital now.
They always like to give you stats, we just said it doesn't matter as we were in that % . Therefore it was like water of a ducks back :)
Stay positive, im sure they will be able to find a match in the registry :)
