Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Sooo one last hurdle has been jumped and Mum was admitted yesterday for the countdown of her BMT.

She is pretty impressed so far as she has been given her BMT diary and everything that happens each day for at least the next 10 days and then the 14 days after the BMT. She likes to know exactly what is going on.

She feels a little isolated atm, knowing that she will not have fresh air for a couple of weeks but she knows this is just a temporary thing until everything is done :)

Today is Day -9 (which is the 11th of March) .... today is the central line in with 5 "dangles" (our pet name for them )

They also mentioned a new mouth wash type thing (sorry forgot the name) the nurses seemed very impressed with it to help with mouth sores (not that mum suffered last time)

What fantastic news! From here it is "full speed ahead." Things will now just get better and better for your Mum - being a valiant warrior has its rewards and she will now reap them. Make sure she eats well and keeps walking every day. That will make her bounce back even faster. I couldn't be happier for both of you.

thank you everyone... Cliff thank you, we are very much one for the drinking water (2L a day since first diagnosed) and walking just a little then a little more each day.... thank you and everyone with all your tips and helping hints we follow them all :)

Everything everyone has suggested and helped us with she has adapted to and makes sure she does everyday for her own good.

Spoke to her this morning and she said last night all of a sudden her taste for water came back and she likes it again...

I did also find out that when they took the central line out yesterday mum fainted.... she has always been a fainter her whole life.... hadn't done it a while until last year during treatment but normally low blood pressure...

due to this they did keep her overnight but bloods are still perfect :)
