I truly believe your wbc w ill be up on Monday so you won't need abmb. But as far as Pain meds for bmb. My med team offers atavan or oxytocin. After seven bmb I have found that ask those things do is make me feel funny after. My bmb friend is lots of litacan. As you know, the bone itself can not be numbed but the outer lining can be and the tissue around the area. Where I'm treated the PAs do ask the bmb and my fab is Dan Dan the bone marrow man. He does an awesome job and we always try to keep a potentially stressful time light and fun. We actually have been asked to keep the laughter down. It me my husband a nurse the pathologist picking up the sample and the pa. That's my experience. I'm praying that it won't be needed

Mine offers Atavan or Versed, but I'm going to request pain meds next time. My BMB are getting more and more painful each time. The "relaxing" type meds are not cutting it at all anymore.

Good luck, Scott, whether they decide a bmb is needed or not. As for pain meds, naturally they use lidocaine to numb the area where they drill into your hip bone but I don't remember getting a prescription for the pain afterwards. They told me I could take Tylenol. Of course if the pain became heavy and Tylenol wasn't enough I'm sure there would be no problem getting a prescription for Vicoden or Percoset but I don't recall it being necessary. I've had maybe six or eight bmb's and I think only two or three of those were outside the hospital.

I probably had 6 BMB. I was admitted in a teaching hospital and sometimes the fellow M.D. had to perform the procedure. I always try to time this procedures the first one was approx 40 mins- that M.D. said my bone was sturdy and my main ONC took approx 4 mins. I only got lidocaine to numb the area. My sister actually gets put out for BMBs because they were so painful for her. On her very first one, they had to do the process 3 times because they said her bones were so hard it was hard for them to get what they needed. She did those three with only Atavan. She also tried the next one with only Atavan but it was just too painful. She now gets Propofol (I believe). She does act funny coming out of it but it relieves the stress of the painful procedure for her. She comes out of it in about 15 or 20 minutes and she is fine and doesn't remember any pain other than what you deal with after the procedure. If it is too painful for you, maybe you should try that.

I will be getting my 7th one in a couple of weeks and only did the pain med's once and I don't think it helped me at all. I wont do it this time. I think they gave me morphine. The more relaxed you can stay the better off you will be, taking the Ativan can help with that. I will be praying for you.

I never got pain meds, only lidocaine (the injection hurts!). I had at least 10 BMBs (probably more...) and they vary in pain.
My doctor is usually super gentle and fast. I had the first one from my hip bone but then started having them from my chest bone, which for me is faster and less painful.

My 100th day is this week so I know there's a BMB in my near future....not looking forward.

They give my wife ativan and one dose of dilated before they hit the bone. They push another dose of dilated after they get to the bone. During the first bmb she had, they had to get a larger, stronger doctor in the room to get through her bones, so maybe her situation is unique.

Even with ativan and dilated, she is still in pain during but sleeps afterward.

I get completely knocked out for my bone marrows. I've tried it both ways and don't like the pain. That's just me though.

Well I guess it's time for a bmb. Onc believes my old friend is back. Bmb is Wednesday and should know something by thursday. I still have the bmt option so I guess I'm lucky.

White 2 anc under 1 lym going up. Won't say for sure but he suspects it
