Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
Help. I'm panicking. I've had some illness (a cold, cough, pink eye, Sore throat on and off) for almost a month. My husband had same thing but his finally clears up after 3-4 weeks. Today I went to my primary care dr to see about this sore throat. She gave me a antibiotic and ran a cbc blood test. Here's the good news: I have not had fevers, have not been overly tired, no blasts or weird things in blood (bands, immature cells etc). Bad news is this: my counts all dropped,,some huge amounts.
My last bloodwork was in early November.
Today I had:
WBC 3.17 down from 8.22
HGB 12.1 down from 13.5
Platelets: 52 down from 124
ANC 1.1 down from 5.9
Anyone have similiAr experience and not relapse? Of course I e called my oncologists and am waiting to hear. I'm scared. I'm hoping the infection caused this and not a relapse. Any insight would be appreciated.
