Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.
I have not been posting lately for several reasons but my brother had his BMT in July. He is AML with flt 3. My sister was the donor. Around day 100 he had bone marrow test and was said to be in remission. The docs are playing with meds because weight is an issue and he is having some GVHD with colon. There have been skin issues that were biopsied this week. No results yet. Concerns over low platelets.
Seems as docs try to wean him from anti rejection stuff, these issues are developing.
My interaction on this site has been hampered by not having firsthand info to share the way others do here. Additionally, I have been too overwhelmed at times to read here for fear of hearing negative things. My brothers BMT was one week after Tony's and I have followed his story when I feel strong enough. All this plus the death of my best friend by a brain tumor has resulted in my getting shingles and post herpetic neuralgia. I put it all inside.
Bottom line, I know I need prayers for brother and a support system for me, a place for my questions and fears.

I am sorry you are dealing with the pain of shingles, you are going through a lot of emotional stress and your health will suffer, if you don't start opening up about what you are going through. The daily turmoil of emotions this disease presents,is sometimes beyond unbearable for both the patient and the caregiver.
There is usually a counsellor you can talk to, where your dear brother is being treated. They usually are part of the whole transplant team. I found that a source of comfort. The wonderful people on this site always will take time to answer your questions, encourage you and pray for you and your brother.
I hope and pray In God's will, your brother will get stronger and get through this. I will pray for you and your brother.

Can't tell you how much I appreciate your kind words, support, and prayers. I know this is totally in the hands of God. But it is only human to say "Thy will be done" and mean, please God let my will be Your will.
I know I have to find some outlet and support. I trust God will help me find the right resources to strengthen me for the path ahead. I also have our 89 year old mom to help manage and mentally this retired nurse is sharp. She is fully aware of her only sons situation.

I am so happy to hear from you and sorry to hear about your shingles and the loss of your best friend.
I too do not have first hand information as either my son or his wife give me my updates.
Hopefully they will get to the bottom of your brother's problems and have a solution for him and I pray that it will be soon.
You need to talk with someone and not keep things bottled up in side as it is not good for your health. I turn to my friends on this site and feel so much better once I have layed out my problems or concerns and read everyone's responses.
Your brother is in my prayers and I will include you too.

Thanks. His wbc and platelets nicked up a bit on Monday so hopefully this is a good sign. We went out for lunch and a movie today.
Working on finding coping mechanisms for me.

I will pray that Getting your brother off the immunosuppressants along w adding in the 2215 and additional boost of donor cells (DLI) will do the trick!!!!'
My heart is heavy today and my poor mother who is 89 is devastated but she remains positive thank God.
I know it is all in His Hands but I sure pray He feels that Tony and my brother need to be here a bit longer! Long enough to see their children's children!

Are those beautiful girls your daughters? My brother has a lovely 23 year old daughter and a stepdaughter who is scheduled to marry in January. Parents deserve to see their children reach adulthood and be settled in life.
