Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

I just got back from my checkup, following a week of feeling huge anxiety and since I had a bad cold, I was sure it's my immune system gone bad and that I must be relapsing...
Well, everything is fine! AND, I am officially past the 2-year mark. It's super exciting!
I asked my doctor today if I should feel relieved, and he said "you know the answer is yes" and he went on to explain to some students he had in his office that with my subtype of AML, most relapses happen in the 1st year, some in the 2nd, but one the 2 year mark was crossed, it becomes very very rare to relapse.
My husband still takes it with a grain of salt, saying we can rely on statistics only so much (since statistically my chances of having AML in the first place were extremely low), and still, it feels like a cause for celebration.
I know many of you are struggling with your health or that of a close family member, and I thought it's nice once in a while to also bring the good angle, and a bit of good news.

90 is not enough, and where does anyone come off saying 70. I will be 61 in December and damn if I would accept that number! We just celebrated my mother's 91st birthday. My dad too is 91. If you saw them kissing at the restaurant and toasting each other, you would set their expected lifespan at 120. That might be enough for all of us. Not one second less.
