Hello everyone - I'm back, again asking for prayers for my beautiful sister, Frances. While things went great after she was released from the hospital following her 7 + 3, she developed horrible pains in her right side which after misdiagnosis of a UTI and bladder infection ended up being a terrible case of colitis. She has been in the hospital for over a week and two days ago, was hit by face paralysis- bells palsey. Today she cannot see out of either of her eyes and is being transferred back to UC Irvine where she had her initial treatment for AML. WHAT IS GOING ON???? Has anyone experienced this or know someone who has experienced this? My heart is so broken ....

Oh Gloria, I'm so sorry. So based on the timeline I am assuming frances did not get her first round of consolidation chemo, right? I personally do not have experince with colitis or bell's palsy; however, being transferred back to her original treatment center sounds appropriate. Also eye/vision issues seem to occur often. I remember being checked often due to the intensity of the chemo. I will absolutely pray for Frances.

Very very common side effect of a compromised immune system. And very treatable. Please keep us posted

No she should start her first consolidate treatment this week, now that she is back at UC Irvine. I assume the oncology team will assess her and decide what's best. It's so hard not being right there and back here in Texas. She cant text or call because she cant see to answer her texts or calls. It's just killing me....
As far as vision goes, she had been dealing with double vision prior to the colitis and hospitalization but once the bells palsy hit, her right side of her face, including her eye drooped so bad she couldn't see out of her right eye and now she said she's lost vision in her left eye as well. So here is where I'm scared.....could she be having pressure in her brain? could the leukemia be in her brain too or is it only a bone marrow/blood cancer?

CNS involvement with AML is very rare and usually occurs in M4, the Type I had. The fact that Frances recent BMB was clean coupled with her recent induction leads me to belive this is not the cause. I am sure CNS involvement was ruled out as was my experience.

So I broke down and called the nurses station because I couldn't stand not knowing what was going on. They said the CT and an MRI both ruled out a stroke so it's def Bells Palsy and her eyelid muscles are paralyzed from the bell's palsy so that's why she can't see - she can't open her eye lids. That will hopefully subside in time. they gave her intrathecal chenough (as opposed to 5+3?)
And they have an abdominal and pelvis CT scheduled to check her belly and colon - I guess to check on the C. Diff (?). This hospital said they haven't seen any sign of it but that's what the other hospital said she has when she was transferred - so they are watching her closely.

Please continue praying -- my heart is broken for her :(

My sweet sister lost her two month battle with AML last evening. Her heart just wasn't strong enough to fight anymore. She was surrounded by her husband and boys when the Lord took her home. My heart is forever broken -- she fought a valiant fight and I am so proud of her ....

My heart breaks for you. As a former caretaker myself for someone with AML, I truly sympathize with what you are going through. May you find peace, comfort, and strength in the coming days. Your sister is at peace and no longer suffering. She will always be with you and you will meet again. My thoughts are with you. Sending you a big hug. xoxo

Omgoodness I am so so sorry to read this. I prayed for Frances this morning. Now I'm praying for paver and comfort for all left behind.

My sweet friends. I'm sorry I haven't been online in awhile. It was two weeks ago today that my sister lost her AML fight. I've been at a loss and unable to talk about it.
I did however want to share what her doctors shared with us - more so because you all have been open and honest with me from my first post. Her doc said all of her blood work pointed to the leukemia being the ultimate cause of her death. It came back so aggressive that her numbers were extremely high, with leukemia even in her spinal fluid. It basically caused her organs to start shutting down. She was in full relapse.

I thank you all for your sweet, kind works and all of your prayers. Please use that energy now to pray for a cure. I know I will.
