I think I'm more apprehensive about this MRI on Monday than I've been about any of the ones I've had during this battle since I was diagnosed. My wife asked me last night "what's wrong" and I realized I had retreated back into myself dealing with my apprehension. Which is my norm....I tend to build protective walls. Not so much out of fear, but I tend to focus so heavily on dealing with the unknown to keep myself from letting my imagination run wild.
Last May I had an Oceptal Lobe Craniotomy to remove what turned out to be a benign tumor (2.5 cm x 2.5 cm). At first they thought it was an aneurysm, then something called a cavernous malformation (ganglion mass of useless blood vessels that tend to seep), which it was, but inside was the tumor. I had been suffering from severe headaches for awhile. Luckily, when I changed Endo's, my new one wanted a full team in my treatment (i.e. Neuro, Cardio, Internal, etc., etc........my new Neuro wanted a new baseline MRI for the Pit.......Pit looked fine, but the malformation stuck out like a halogen light in the dead of night.
Another life lesson in our battle with the Beast. When the numbers start looking good and we start feeling better, it's easy to get complacent and before we know it the Beast outflanks us for a counter attack.
Anyway, after the surgery the only residual issues were some additional cognitive and memory issues, which I already was dealing with.......but the headaches were gone. About 5 months ago the headaches returned.........not severe and not frequent. Since then they've gotten more severe (disabilitating about twice a week) and more consistent (daily now). In short, pretty much back where we were a little over a year ago.........
I try to not let my mind run rampant, so I retreat to my inner sanctum of positive mental preparation. It's going to be a rough weekend.
