Acromegaly Support Group
Acromegaly (from Greek akros "high" and megas "large" - extremities enlargement) is a hormonal disorder that results when the pituitary gland produces excess growth hormone (hGH). Acromegaly most commonly affects middle-aged adults and can result in serious illness and premature death. Join the group to discuss symptoms, diagnosis, and treatments.
We are conducting a clinical study on Somatuline Autogel. Somatuline (R) Depot has already been approved by the FDA. These injections are similar to Sandostatin LAR but the formulations are not as thick. The primary objective for this study is to assess the ability of patients with Acromegaly to self administer these injections. So that means you don't have to go to your doctor's office anymore to get these injections! You can store these injections in your refrigerator. This study is at no cost to you. Please call me for more information at Research Institute of Dallas. My number is (214) 265-2157
My daughter has been on Lanreotide autogel 120mg every 21 days, she has been fine, but has lumps in her backside now after all the injections, we mentioned this to endo and he
said may haver to change soon, been on this medication a year.
As far as I know Pegvisamont has to be injected 3 times a day by youself, also liver levels have to be checked frequently, but its supposed to be the gold star treatment, also very very expensive, some people just cannot get on it. Hope this helps, if im wrong, somebody im sure will be more informative. Bye
When I first had the injection I did feel a little queasy and headachie usually only for that day though, but that soon passed after a couple of months and then I must've gotten used to them.
How is your study going?
somavert comes in 15MG and 20 MG vials so it depends upon your dosage as to how many shots you get. They are also subcutanious(sp?)(insulin needles)
I am on 45mg daily, so I take three shots a day, all at once before bed.
Can you tell me how you inject, does it have to be in the backside, or can it be injected somewhere else, my daughter used to inject ocreotide 3 times a day, before lanreotide injection, and hated doing this herself, but if it works better, do you think you feel a lot better taking Pegvisamont,my daughter says she doesnt feel any different before injection or after, so I dont know if its doing her any good,I know some people have to take 3 shots 3 times a day, but just the once at night seems so much better. Thanks
sorry, I was meaning she doesnt feel any different on lanreotide, she may have to go on Pegvisamont injections.
