This is right up my alley...I was a dental assistant for fifteen years. As you probably know during the course of this disease your jaw can protrude and teeth shift and seperate. Your jaw and occusion is a very precise mechanical device, any movement and things are thrown off base. Even the missing teeth that you have lost- if they have a biting partner above or below can cause a sort of snow ball effect, teeth with extra space is not a desirable situation, they move and supererupt. Many factors could contribute to tooth loss, the spacing could cause things to become hard to clean,(one might think the opposite is true but more food and plaque can become calculus. Your malocclusion ( the way your teeth bite together) can cause trama if the teeth are not lined up properly-thus the need for braces (they are really not just for cosmetics) eventually the forces of chewing on teeth that are not aligned properly causes the nerves die,(my husband has lost teeth this way, plus he grinds like a horse in his sleep,which causes extreme damage) medicines can also cause issues with dry mouth which leads to tooth decay, because saliva keeps things moving in and around the teeth. Did the dentist say you had decay, gum disease, any jaw issues? Hope this helps and is not too much info! You asked!

I forgot to mention, this can be something that can be fixed and/or slowed. If it is an alignment problem, then when the progression of the disease is stopped, the dentist can design a treatment plan to fix it. If it force trama, maybe an acrylic biteguard can be worn, if it is dry mouth sometime the dentist recommends fluoride trays you can wear at night to help prevent decay and strengthen enamal. Again, I don't know the actual diagnosed problem with the teeth but if you give me some info on what you might remember the dentist saying I could give you a good idea! I listened to the white coats for 15 yrs, I could practice dentistry myself ( I don't like the thought of prison though)lol

never had a problem with my teeth until now,my bottom jaw protrudes out further than my top but only since being told that i had acromegaly and ive noticed a gap in my top front teeth and where there was a gap there is no longer one

Your teeth problems are most likely a side product of the acromegaly. It is probably a mixture of things contributing, like dry mouth, spacing and alignment. It really sucks, but keep on top of it and see the dentist regularly and it will be fine! XXXOOO

my lower jaw is out farther than my top as well.there is surgery to repair this and im looking into it right now.the only part that sucks is i will have to go to a dental school to get it done because they will take payments because i dont have any dental insurance.my other problem is i have holes in my teeth because the radiation treatments wore away the enamel on my teeth.but i wish you well on finding out about your other problem.

I am dealing with the same thing. I have had four molars pulled in the last two years. My jaw has shifted and twisted so much that my upper teeth began crushing my bottom teeth. I also have a gap now on my bottom teeth that is so large it looks like I am missing a tooth! Ug.

I think radiation treatment also effects the teeth, it weakens them but you could check with dentist.

I haven't had any loose teeth, but prior to my surgery two weeks ago, my occlusion was just fine. Immediately after surgery my jaws began aching terribly and now my teeth no longer meet up the right way. I thought surgery was supposed to make things better! Now closing my mouth feels awkward, and I'm afraid I'll start having dental problems. It's good to hear these things can be fixed, though. I have to be patient and wait a couple of months for my next MRI and bloodwork to find out if this is over...

I have a lot of experience with teeth problems related to acro. Almost 2 years ago, I started wearing braces in preparation for orthognathic surgery which will move my lower jaw forward. Long before my acro diagnosis, I noticed that my front lower teeth were spacing and becoming loose. I wore a guard for a couple years to keep them from getting worse, then decided on the braces/surgery route. It was only after I started with the braces that I got the acro diagnosis. Of course, then it all made sense.

About 18 years ago, I wore braces & had the most beautiful teeth & an excellent bite. Acro has ruined that for sure. Diagnosed with acro in 2008 & had surgery, now on Sandostatin LAR since Sept. 2008. Acro created spaces between my lower front teeth and the left bottom teeth lean outward. The upper left roots of my teeth have enlarged so much that the gums have gotten paper thin and actually tore in one spot. I just had a skin graft done to repair that and the periodontist has me scheduled for more skin grafts for the bottom left side because the teeth have leaned so badly that the roots are exposed. Aco does so much damage. I've had carpul tunnel surgery on both wrists, skin tags removed from the trunk of my body.....I need bunions removed from both feet....had colon polyps removed....the list just goes on and on. This disease needs earlier diagnosis to prevent so many devastating problems. I am so thankful for this site where we can share.

spoke with my dentist ..being on a drug can cause problems ..can cause mouth to be drier which then can cause problems with teeth..Oh the fun

Yep, those of us on antihypertensives for a start (a fair proportion of us) will know all about dry mouths. In my experience, thiazide diuretics, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors and calcium channel blockers can all give dry mouth symptoms. That is all of the major classes of antihypertensives! Some, of course, are worse than others, and people do vary enormously in their response to drugs. Plus, of course, those of us who had any sleep apnoea pre-treatment will have dried out our mouths every night too!

Jokey, did anyone tell you that too much bouncing can also loosen your teeth? :-)

Same thing happens on Somavert too. During sleep I get completely dry mouth. To avoid spacing between teeth I steel wear braces. For lower teeth 24/7 and for upper teeth during night. But I do have problems with receding gums too. Every time I start with Somavert I notice that receding has progressed.
