I am a 42 year old male that was diagnosed in the fall of 2016 with a microadonema. My tumor was only 2 mm in size and my IGF-1 was 647. I went through numerous tests to conclude my diagnosis of acromegaly. I then had surgery to remove the tumor. Hoping this would resolve the high IGF-1 levels. After surgery the levels were cut in half, and after cabergoline they started to drop to a high normal level. This was a good feeling to have until recently after other tests finding out my levels are going back up. I am taking what the pharmacist is saying the max dose of cabergoline. Also my cortisol levels are low. Now they checked my adrenal gland function and they are saying everything is reacting as it should. I am still waiting to see what we are going to do about those levels. I am due for a yearly mri next month. I don’t really worry about any physical issues. I have always been a “big” guy so I am accustomed to any physical problems. My psychology problems are what I am concerned about. I am always tired, still have headaches, joints hurt and moody. Which added to me wondering what they are going to find next and are they ever going to “fix” me. Makes me psychologically unstable ( my opinion) when it comes to trusting in the testing and medication for treatment. I guess time will only tell!

I am a 50 year old Male. I was diagnosed with a tumor about 1cm in 1995. I was told my levels were normal and i never heard the word Acromegaly until I looked it up 3 years ago. since the symptoms of acromegaly are slow they sneak up on you and are often diagnosed as something else. long term effects that i have experienced are: I can't close my jaw all the way. no matter what i do I can't touch my molars together. This has ruined the experience of chewing food like steak. I also keeps my jaw in a tense position. This is from the jaw bone continuing to grow. This growth impedes on my ears. They always feel stuffy. My feet have grown 2 sizes since 1995. My joints are always painful.. My muscles are tight and are sore especially around the tendons and where they join the bone. So tennis elbow and shoulder issues that don't ever resolve and look normal to an orthopedic doctor. Tight neck, tight Atlas. tight ankles. sudden sharp aches or pains in feet ankles and knees. Sleep apnea is a major symptom. I have an enlarged liver. My fasting blood sugar was very high
My moods were shifty and I suffer from bouts of sudden depression. I was experiencing memory loss, and confusion. When this happened I went back Then everyone (doctors) stared to take me more seriously. my hgh was very high and now i was being followed from an endocrinology view. At this point the tumor was 2 cm. I had it removed jan 8,2018 I feel much better. my hormones are returning to normal. I was lucky that the tumor didn't touch my optic nerves. that would cause blindness and made the surgery more complicated. good luck
