Acromegaly Support Group
Acromegaly (from Greek akros "high" and megas "large" - extremities enlargement) is a hormonal disorder that results when the pituitary gland produces excess growth hormone (hGH). Acromegaly most commonly affects middle-aged adults and can result in serious illness and premature death. Join the group to discuss symptoms, diagnosis, and treatments.
It appears we have had several new members in the past couple of months. It makes me curious as to why that is. Are some of the efforts that I know people are making to increase awareness starting to have effect? I'd be interested to know three things from our members:

2/ Opthamologist. Seeing double whilst looking to the right ,got my eyes tested (specsaver), sent to Opthamologist who made the diagnosis.

2. urologist noticed his hands were really huge, and suggested having GH/IGF-1 measured. His internist, rheumatologist, neurologist, orthopedic surgeon, dentist and dermatologist all saw him for conditions caused by the GH-producing tumor, but only someone seeing him for something unrelated to the condition picked up on it. I call him our hero.

2) GP - but only after I had a blood test as I asked if I could have polycystic ovarian syndrome as I was experiencing some similar symptoms to my sister. Results came back showing high prolactin levels so had more blood tests and CAT scan, then an MRI. Little did I realise that other health issues (eg carpel tunnel) were related.

2) First noticed by oral surgeon, HMO doctor said no. 3 years later GP suspected and referred me to Enod. When I blacked out driving, she put in the hospital and was confirmed.
