I did NOT have that, but I think it is unavoidable when you have the gamma knife treatment.

When I saw the title of the post, I thought it was about something else that I think would also be an interesting topic. The endocrinologist at Mayo claims that part of the reason I still suffer headaches even after the resection is because the acromegaly caused my skull to enlarge and my brain doesn't like it. My chiropractor has trouble accessing some of my vertabrae because of my skull, now. I think we need to pay more attention to the type of pillow we use to support our heads when we sleep. What do the rest of you think?

Hi JeriTX I know what you are talking about, don't know what it's called other than a frame,after my surgery when my husband and 2 sons were called in by my Neurosurgeon to come and see me and I woke for the first time I remember this unbearable feeling in my head like it was clamped tight in a vice and I had on some kind of bandage wrapped around my head and some dried blood on my face.
I had this feeling for a few months after my surgery, I asked my Neurosurgeon if it was normal and he said yes because your head cannot move even a tiny bit during surgery so that frame is on very, very tight.

oh my gosh. i totally forgot about that! so much other garbage was going on that i forgot about those sores. sorry..i cant tell you what its called either but yeah...those really hurt! and i had two little bald places for a few days.

One of my doctors told me before the surgery that they sometimes had to put a staple in the screw holes to pull them back together. He said "We always warn patients ahead of time, because you might not notice and blowdry your hair and heat those suckers up"! Talk about an understatement! As if you wouldn't have noticed them without their warning... I agree about the vise effect for several weeks.
The pillow question is a good one. But what kind?

AH! I hated that! I was so mad... I felt totally fine within a couple days of the surgery... well I guess after they took the splints out of my nose. But the only thing that hurt were those stupid sores from the clamp. I don't know what it was called, I never asked. I can't feel them now. But the bruised were there for at least 3 weeks.
