wow thats confusing... I have never heard of IGF-1 being zero? I wonder if others have...A reading like that for me would make me question the lab work?

GH and IGF-! are 2 different things...I am confused..

Hi, I am very confused too. In June the IGF-1 was 12, GH 0.1. August both were 0. Both will will tested again in 2 weeks. Just received the lab slips from my endo today. Maybe that part of the pituitary has shut down because of the tumor. I will go back to the endo in mid October, she will explain it all to me then.

I can't understand WHY your endo would say no to the tumor. It has to come out if it has a secretory history or before it causes damage to the pituitary or optic nerve. Am I not right on this??

Thank you! I am also very confused about this. Today I received copies of the latest tests in the mail. The GH is 4.1 do you know if this is normal? The IGF-1 is 79, I guess that is normal.
I went for a field vision test again this morning and the peripheral(spell) vision is not affected. I talked to the eye doctor about my confusion about this situation. Neuro surgeons (I saw 2 different surgeons) one in Denver and 1 in the town where I live, Colorada Springs. They said the tumor has to go. The endocrinologist is recommending not to do the surgery at this time. He said he would opt "no surgery" at this pont since my vision is not affected. Also, the neuro surgeon told my to watch at for "pituitary apoplext" symptoms, then the surgery has to be done right away.
Any info you would give me would be appreciated! Thank you

Wow I don't envy you... tough decisions lay ahead of you.. I know this from listening to people... on this forum...there may be no sense of urgency for surgery as it has to be done next week....however it seems ot me that you would not want to wait till it impacts your vision...then it may be to late...So many of our friends on here wish that they had caught it early....I also respect the decion that other s have taken given there specific cricumstances to not have surgey at all.. keep in mind that ther seems to be anecdotal reports that meds prior to surgery makes for a smoother surgery... most doctors don't support this but it was suggested to me by one and I insisted and I am very glad I did...

oh I also recall reading something that the "success" "cure " rate is higher the smaller the tumor...more food for thought..I hope Idid not confuse you more...your journey is your own..

i was told the only measure of GH thats was meaning ful was during an OGTT test...it measures the ability to supresss

For a female age 55 the GH normal was 0-6 from my lab. IGF-1 normal was 65-238 for me. Not sure how that would compare to you. However, the IGF-1 seems to be the most critical. I was also told probability of success with fewest problems was dependent on getting the bugger out while it was as small as possible.You might think about a second endo opinion and redone labs.

What's the size of the tumor? If it's small, it can be safely removed. If the levels are so low, I understand that you don't have acromegaly.

You really need a second opinion. From my experience, a local neurologist said I had white matter on the brain which is typical in migraine sufferers. When I went to Mt. Sinai hospital, a world renowned neurologist said I had had several strokes. Tread lightly as this is your health, not the doctors. Please get a second opinion...what can it hurt?

2 surgeons said the tumor has to go since it is filling the whole sella turcica. I am seeing my PC this Thursday I see what she says.
