Hi Wesley,I had mine done last year,only found 1 small polyp. Thats at 47 after 18yrs of acro.I was pleased,one less thing to worry about.
Only problems were needing double prep to clean me out and my pipes were too long for the scope so had to have a barium enema to see the last bit.

I've had two since surgery five and half years ago, nothing found, are you sure it's every three months is the recommended time. The most unpleasent part of the procedure is the gunge you have to drink the day before. I didn't have the sedative for the colonoscopy either time as I had to drive. It was only a small bit uncomfortable. You can see your insides on the camera if you want.

I had one last January before my surgery. I am 54 and had 72 polps removed. I have another scheduled for this January and if nothing shows up, I only have to have them every 5 years. It is quite an ugly thing to do but I felt it was worth it!

I had one a few months after my surgery. They found and removed one polyp, but for someone who's 33 I think even one is abnormal.

Wow... Thanks Chippy, Jimok, Mrs Louie, Suzanna... Now I don't feel so rushed that I am missing a vital component in my recovery/care.

Hey Chippy, that is awesome that you only had one polyp. That whole cleansing thing, that jug of fruit flavoured water I believe it is, I seen my Father have that before.

Jimok, I have read in some med journal that the preferred timing was once every three months. I believe thats what the time frame was, I am surprised just as much as you are. That is to say, if you have HAD a visual polyp(s) detected and are removed, three months time follow up to ensure they do not turn cancerous. I believe I had led you wrong, sorry.

Hahahah.. I don't think I WANT to see whats going on with the camera. I just want to lay and think happy thoughts. I'm not afraid, just a bit nervous is all. I am sure everyone feels the same, it is for the health!

I was told (earlier this month when I visited hospital) that it is every 3 years. I have not had one since 2009, so I am scheduled for one in 2012.

Nothing to be nervous about. The purgative you have the day before will make you want to go NOW, so you will need to ensure you have priority access to the toilet at home! Though it does not feel as bad as diarrhoea as a result of a stomach bug.

The sedative etc that I got did not knock me out and I felt perfectly lucid through the whole procedure, though importantly did not feel a thing.

John, LOL. Well at least it is some sort of cleansing really! Two birds with one stone? Maybe feel better for a few months down there.

They can give you a sedative? I wonder if this is covered by my health care... Not sure I want more drugs in my system, already have enough prescrips as it is.

Wesley, I don't think you could endure the procedure with no sedative or anesthesia. Some people get completely knocked out, my husband had the twilight drug like John, so he was fully awake. It's very important that you let your dr. know that you have acromegaly and since many dr.'s are unfamiliar with it, let them know you have an extra long colon. My husband had not been diagnosed when he had his and the prep did not do it's job. Now we know why. We were covered by our health insurance, but I assume that varies depending on what type of healthcare you have.
My husband had no polyps at the time and was told to return in 3 years I believe.

A Worried Wife, thank you for the advice. Maybe it is just a part of the proceedure standard to have anthesthesia ready and its the patients choice to turn it down.

We have extra long colons? I did not know that. Thank you, I was referred by my Endo, and I am not sure all the info he referred... IE Acro Patient. I will call ahead of time and let them know Etc... Extra prescription for that "Sludge Juice Cleaner?" They give them in jugs. I've seen them before, my Father had his done.

Hi, Wesley! I warned my GI doctor about the acromegaly and the extra long colon, but he assured me the regular amount of "cleanser" would be plenty adequate. Ha! He found a polyp (very small) and some diverticulosis but couldn't get all the way around. He referred me to my local hospital for a barium enema, but I chose to go to Vanderbilt university where my endo is. Also warned the radiology dept. that I have acromegaly and about the extra long colon. They too assured me the cleanser would be sufficient. Then when I got there, they did an x-ray to make sure. Guess what...still too much stool in there. So the barium enema was cancelled. I never have gotten back to get the procedure done. The polyp biopsy turned out to be benign and I'm to go back I think in three or five years. Whatever...they are to let me know when it's due. Sometimes I just get tired of having to tell the story and convince the medical profession of what I know and of what they have yet to learn. Sigh.

same happened to me Granin. They dont even check your records.When I got there they were grumpy with me saying I didnt follow their instructions grrr.
