I'm new here. I am Bipolar so that's where I spend most of my time. Anyway, I am 36 years old and just went on Accutane for the 5th time since high school. My face was basically clear until February when I went on a steroid pack for Sinusitis. Suddenly, my face exploded like I was a teenager again. And I quickly went off the steroid pack. But the acne has continued to worsen. My old doc refused to put me on Accutane until I saw an endocrinologist. I decided to go to a different doc instead. I had just had blood work done and my hormones were fine. So, I just started my Accutane and it will be a 5 or 6 month treatment. I'm crossing my fingers. I just think it's absolutely ridiculous that I have this severe of a problem at an age when wrinkles should be my concern. So, I just thought I'd share. I can't even leave the house without spackling on the makeup. It's humiliating.

I can hear you hun. I am 29 and just went on accutane for the second time. After 1.5 months on it i was acne free again. Im into month 3 at the moment. How many mg are you on? I started on 20mg and now on 40mg except the last few days because of depression and not getting out of bed. I have my fingers crossed for you

For now, I am on 40mgs. I am hoping he'll bump me up to 60mgs because that's what I was on last time. My doc is trying to keep everything cost effective with me because I have no insurance. I do have money saved up so if he wants to put me on 60mgs I say DO IT! LOL. I'm glad to hear your skin is doing so well. Hopefully mine will improve as quickly. Be careful harmful drug, not worth it in my opinion my cousin got Ulcerative Colitis due to accutane for just one year usage only 19 years old. So you tell me... just for your looks come on! But okay..just be careful on it and stay in close contact with your doctor, but if your tummy or side effects kick in id be freaking out about the balance in my intestines considering its going to kill off the good bacteria probiotics. Best Wishes God made us beautiful with bumps and without! Be proud.

By the way sam seems your hormones could of changed when you hit your 30s. Have kids perhaps? You go back on Birthcontrol before doing Accutane? Did you try burdock root and red clover flower for a year? Id exhaust like every single option I could research before risking getting UC or any stomach condition from accutane. Anyways Hugs on treatment.

One more thing accutane may not cure you forever, it can come back once you stop :( so then what will you do? Always refer to this powerful drug..viscious cycle. My cousin got acne again after accutane, but I put him on a herbal routine and hes free of acne years later but has UC now sadly. He wasnt on it a year straight it was like 3 mths then hed get acne again go back to it another 1mth etc...like that up to a year until his stomach was in severe pain.

@acidgirl: I know it can come back. This is my fifth time in 20 years. But here's what precipitated the acne. On my honeymoon almost a year ago, we went to California. The only time I wore makeup was on the plane. The rest of the time just mascara and lip gloss. Zit free. Then in February of this year, I had to go on a steroid pack for a bad sinus infection. My face erupted so badly and never stopped. Even once the I stopped the steroid pack. So, I'm 2 weeks in and already, knock on wood, my face looks better. I am going to have my cortisol and DHEA checked just to make sure it's not hormonal. As for birth control, I'm on the Pill and we use condoms. I'm not worried. I just want to feel good again. My acne has been so bad that it sometimes bled int the middle of the night. I'll be careful on this. Trust me and thanks for your advice. And hey fellow TEXAN!

http://www.isolaz.com might be safer than taking the drug and I hear pretty painless. Not sure on cost worth finding out?

Im not sure if it comes back on isolaz though thats somethign worth asking. Id hate to have to take accutane every time it comes back:(

You mentioned you were on steroids and then you broke out, suggestion to take probiotics to rebalance out your system since the steroids can wipe the bacteria.

Have you hear about the class action lawsuit against Roche, the makers of Accutane? Thousands of people who took it are suffering from gastrointestinal problems, including me. I took two rounds of it when I was younger and seventeen years later I still suffer from acute stomach pain and very dry facial skin which is giving me premature wrinkles. Do you know it was originally used as a chemo drug for cancer? This is serious stuff here. It can damage your liver, too.

SeasideRose, this is my 5th time on it since my teen years. Knock on wood, I've never had a problem with it. I would rather risk the minor chance of serious health problems than have my face cracked and bleeding from severe acne. Thanks for the heads up though. You won't change my mind, but I appreciate it. It's already working. And I live in the most humid place possible. Houston. Peace. Sorry for the problems it's caused you though.

Thank you smilereed. So far, so good. My face was breaking out so bad, it would crack and bleed. I'm 36, not 16. Who needs that? But yes, yall know I will keep you updated.
