For anyone considering takin Accutane for the first time, please DO YOUR RESEARCH before making your decision!
I took Accutane when I was 17 years old for 4 months. The symptoms I experienced were dry/chapped lips, and depression. At the time (13 years ago), my doctor said that it wasn't known to cause depression. Now it has been linked to depression and suicidal thoughts in those taking it.
At age 27, after trying to get pregnant for years, I was diagnosed with Diminished Ovarian Reserve. Basically, I am running out of eggs fast, and my chances of ever conceiving are less than 5%. I was told that I would need to do In-Vitro fertilization using donor eggs. When I asked my fertility doctor about the possibility of the link between Accutane and my diagnosis, he said that it was a fairly new drug when I took it. So.. some of the first patients to take it are just now entering their child bearing years. It's still early to tell for sure. But if it's strong enough to cause severe birth defects if you get pregnant while taking it, couldn't it be strong enough to kill off your eggs as well?
I know that many of you reading this are probably teenagers or in your early 20's and that having children is not really on your mind right now. Please check out this discussion forum. I have found hundreds of women AND men who have been diagnosed with infertility, (many women with my same diagnosis) who took accutane. My diagnosis is rare for a woman in her 20's, but my doctor is concerned because just over the past few years they have been seeing a higher number of young women close to menopause. PLEASE read through this site and ask yourself, is it worth risking (because it is still unknown) something so serious just to clear up your skin? I should add that my acne went away for about a year and then came back full force after that.

Ohh jeeze... thats scary. I agree with you...if a drug is strong enough to cause severe birth defects, is it really something you want in your body?

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
