..... over people, places and things.

I hear this a lot and think that it is a huge generalisation that does not fit with my experience.

What do other people think and why?

I am powerless over everything in my life. I have no power over people, places or things. If I am not careful in my AA walk they get power over me and that's a bad place for me to sit. God is the only power in my life today and for that I am grateful. I have a God in my life that is bigger than anything else and can help me to move forward in my life. I can't use my own will in anything because that leads to selfishness. That's what I am without God

"'How can I best serve Thee - Thy will (not mine) be done.' These are thoughts which must go with us constantly. We can exercise our will power along this line all we wish. It is the proper use of the will." (page 85)

When we are doing that, we can "match calamity with serenity" (page 68) and be at peace even if negatively affected or even controlled by others.
