5. The idea that alcoholics, drug addicts, sex addicts, overeaters, smokers, etc, etc, should all just go to AA meetings because a disease is a disease is a disease...was started by a treatment center that only had one van.
"Since you are being so forthright. You forgot to mention that the two posts you were replying to in different areas were I am sure by coincidence to the same person. Just keeping you honest. Half measures avail us nothing."
Well, to begin with I was making amends to the OP, but you are correct, I forgot to mention that, so thank you for bringing that to my attention.
"...if they snorted ajax is no ones business. All is required is a desire to stop drinking."
Ah, the much abused short form. If someone snorts ajax but isn't alcoholic, they do not qualify for membership. The only requirement for an alcoholic to be a member is a desire to stop drinking. But, as you have so correctly pointed out, only the individual can decide if they be alcoholic or not..

"Now hold on. You make it sound like a drug addiction disqualifies one from AA membership. Not so. Being a nonalcoholic disqualifies one for membership."
Couldn't have said it better myself.
As for putting Bill Wilson on a pedestal, I certainly don't. The man was human and fallible for sure. And like all of us, frequently wrong. But I don't think that he was wrong about singleness of purpose and not letting non-alcoholics be members.
And thank you for adding me to your amends.
The whole point of this discussion has been about non-alcoholics being members of AA.. Mostly non-alcoholic drug addicts, but like I said non-alcoholics of any stripe. Non-alcoholics means not an alcoholic and not all addicts are also alcoholic. You are, but some aren't. I am alcoholic that can take or leave drugs, but just because I can doesn't mean that I paint everyone with the same brush.
Bill was right when he said that there is no way of making the non-alcoholic (addict) into an alcoholic and therefore a member. That is no suggestion, it is simply common sense.
I had asked you if it is your belief that we throw the doors open and admit all addicts into AA. Which I believe is an honest question. I think you said, and I can be wrong, but you said that's not what you are saying. It seems to me that is exactly what you are saying. But if we admit non-alcoholics, then it wouldn't be Alcoholics Anonymous. Alcoholism is not addiction.
As for the Mayan calender, I don't buy it, but if they are right, I'm ready to go. My affairs are in order. But if AA collapses, and maybe collapse isn't the right word, it certainly won't be "the addicts" fault.

You must not have read any of my previous posts. I used drugs. Most have. But I am not an addict. Just using drugs doesn't make one an addict anymore than just drinking alcoholic makes one an an alcoholic.
I'm glad that you are able to choose not to drink and pull it off on a consistent basis. I have never been able to rely on being able to do that.
But if you haven't lost the power of choice, could iit be that maybe you are not the type of alcoholic described in the BB?
You are a prime example of untreated alcoholism in my opinion, but the again just as no one can tell anyone the are a alcoholic or not, you will need to find this out one day, hopefully before you drink again, or use one of those insignificant other drugs that did not make you a addict, just different.
I believe the question in the my post that you are replying to was not what kind of alcoholic you are, but are you implying that Alcoholics Anonymous should throw the doors open and admit non-alcoholics, which would include non-alcoholic addicts. An honest question to which you don't seem to want to answer. Which is fine, I won't ask again.
As to which "Kind" of alcoholic you are, you are right it isn't my business, but the reference I made was based in something you had said you are a heron addict that is also alcoholic. Which is true for you and I have no reason to doubt it. Besides, as far as I know, there are only two kinds of alcoholics that I know of-drunk ones and sober ones, a kind of simplistic view, I know, but any of us alkies fall into either category.
Actually, I'm not suffering from alcoholism of any kind at the moment. I am awake,. sober, and in my right mind. Meditated for twenty minutes this morning and am preparing to meet the day. I write inventory daily, am free of resentment at this point (not that stuff won't crop up during the day, it always does), but I am free right now.
You are right, taking drugs didn't make me an addict. As for inventories, I suggest that you get on with your own. You can put me on column one.
Have a good day,
Jim
So much for this thread being about choice.
And no, I have not been here before. A friend invited me here.
I don't want you to put me on your inventory.I was suggesting that if you have a problem with me or what I say to put it on column one. You seem to take everything personal, so I am posing a consideration that you inventory that and see if I'm the problem. Which you know I am not. As for me having a problem with you, I do not at this point. I've already inventoried this whole conversation. Not that I won't probably have to inventory similar conversations in the future.
You are right, this has become circular.
And sweetie your too vain I also pass on the inventory. I have no expectations you will agree with me or understand me, nor is it that important. Type on screen, life is good and I am comfortable with who I am and feel 100 percent part of A.A. because of those who let me be exactly who I am and did not as on some of these groups try to make me feel I did not belong. That cannot be compared to here just chatting.
And yes you have beaten this into the ground and will probably still try to get your point across again in another thread until you drop the rock, which I am doing now. SMASH!!!!
The Best To You Jim
Actually you are the one hanging on to this like a pit bull. I see that you've already brought it up in another thread and taken my inventory there as well.
But that's your problem.
I'm off to work, have a good one.
Jim your really something, and I was right your never going to stop. Your baiting people and you will find someone else once i stop giving you energy, which you remember came after me, not visa versa.
I am blocking this and any others your on, so do not expect anymore answers. This is not fair to the group and I know better.
Like they, it isn't any of my business what you think about me.
