A Life Skills Group Community Group
All are welcome to join our group. We're here to share advice, encouragement, and ideas on how to build better lives for ourselves. We can discuss all aspects of daily living, along with anything else that’s on your mind. Each of us knows a little, and together, we know a lot that can help us each to reach higher and go further in life. There's such a lot...

If you aren't sure whether to keep something or give it away or throw it away, try this: put the item in a plastic bag, tie it shut, and write today's date on the bag. Now put it away somewhere. If in two or three years you haven't used the item, you can probably get rid of it. Of course, this doesn't apply to important records and documents or family heirlooms like old letters and photographs and jewelry, but for most other things, it is a workable idea.
Here's an idea: Take about $100 to $300 and go to an office supply store to buy a combination printer/scanner/photocopier machine. Take it home and scan all of your documents, bills, pictures, and other papers. Save them as computer files. Then, sort through the papers, throwing away everything that isn't important, and keeping what is important or irreplaceable in a box that can be put someplace out of the way. You can always print out any of the saved documents at a later time. You'll save yourself a lot of space this way. You'll also save yourself a lot of time, because you will be able to find them on your computer faster than you probably would find them in the stacks of paper or physical file folders you have now.
i agree. i live at home my parents are hoarders. we live in a one single bedroom because our 2 bedroom had a fire incident in 2010 and we r still in the same bldg. my mom says it is clean but messy if it is clean, then it wouldn't be messy. the new owner is disgusted with our place lol. my room isn't any better i mean i pick up stuff move it around and throw stuff out. i am always throwing or rearranging my stuff doesn't look any better.
the room is a sardine can 79 x 80 ur lucky a futon can fit in it! my mom and i share the closet one side is hers and the other is mine but the closet isn't big. the closet is hoarded u won't believe how much stuff of mine and hers i have to take out it is not organized at all tried to make it organize didnt work. the shelves in there for your sheets and towels is way too small.
bf and i go to a clutter meeting once a month and we agreed on having less in your house is better and easier to find things although u can lose stuff in a clean house but it is worse when it is hoarded. i can never find shit in this house i am lucky if i do. i hate cleaning always cleaning something (my room) which my parents never want to clean anything of theirs. i am still praying for the day to move out with an income where i have space and clean house that i can breathe....
start with the top of the room, high dust first, knock the dirt down before you clean under it !
Pick up the clutter, organize it,
Do all the wood with furniture polish cleaner,
then clean all the glass stuff with glass cleaner,
then vacuum or sweep it,
then mop it !!!
I owned and operated my own cleaning service for many years,
This was my tired and true method.
