Ive never lived on my own, something i wish i had done when i was young, so go for it!

I rented a room from a lady named Irene Isenhower. She was a widow who liked to drink white wine. I was going to college three miles up the road from where she lived. I was 22, just out of the Marines, and going to JC on the G.I. Bill. She charged me $75.00 per month, and I had my own bath and toilet, a kitchenette, and sitting room. I walked the three miles to and from college every day. My family was across the river, about 15 miles away. I got 175 dollars per month from the G.I. Bill, and a 90 dollar pr month for a 30 percent disability from the VA. I bought all my own groceries, did my own laundry, and saved up money. I had no roomates; but I would spend time with Irene. She was a "Rosie Riveter" building Liberty Ships in during WWII. She and her husband were the salt of the earth; though I never got to meet Olin. They built the house together, and then Olin got cancer and passed away. Irene was a PISTOL!

That's pretty cool! Thanks! :-) I am so glad you had that time with her, I am sure it meant a great deal to her.

Lived with a foreign exchange student, who was a party animal. It got crazed, but it was entertaining. Met some different people.

I lived in an apartment with a roommate to begin with. I had recently divorced (this was way back in the 70's) and I was working a full time job with lots of overtime. After a while I got a different job then moved to my very own apt. and lived by myself. However, I had fun neighbors so was never lonely. My family lived 2 states away from me but I had their moral support and talked to them daily on the phone. No cell phones back then so my phone bill was HUGE!!!!!
I got remarried in 1979 so that ended my solo experiences!!! LOL That was a good thing though.

The BEST 3 months of my life I was working and living in a college town during the summer when all the students had gone home, including all my friends.
It was wonderful!!!! I had the run of the place, which was the upstairs of a house which was probably built around 1880. The people who lived in the house below me moved out about one month into the summer, so I moved to the "spacious" main floor and rented out the upstairs for the out-of-town landlord.
The decor was "Early American Garage Sale," but I didn't care...it was mine!!!!!
I had 3 glorious months of living on my own, running my own life, keeping my own house, going by no ones agenda but my own. It was so very freeing. Such independence!
My only mistake was getting married at the end of the summer :-(
Now THAT decision was the mistake. Living on my own was a GREAT decision.

lucky for some of you. im 27 wish i had my own place already. in 2010, i stayed with a friend for a week during the fire incident cuz my parents pissed me off to a T and that was it. i wanted to stay with them but finding a job where i live is not easy at all especially with no exp but i have a degree. i had no choice but to go back "home." however, it was very quiet and peaceful unlike at my "house."
