Other wise known as: Toxic people. There are ways to cope with these difficult people but its hard to understand why someone would explode loudly or be physically aggressive for no apparent reason, or over something trivial. They usually come out charging their whole demeanor expresses "attack". They are abrupt, intimidating, and, most important overwhelming. They are very good at criticizing something you've said or done, they seem to attack not just the particular behavior but you, and they do so in an accusing way. Some persons who fit this mold attack crudely, with vulgarity that in itself distressing. Others are skillful enough to produce their view of the world is always right, and a strong sense of what others should do; this quality is coupled with the forcefulness and supreme confidence that stem from the very fact that they have done so well at pulverizing others.
Coping with these types is very difficult. You have to stand up to these people, If you let yourself be pushed around by aggressive people, you simply fade into the scenery for them. You also need to give them time to run down. Holding your position, is very difficult while the aggressive person may be yelling, crying angrily, or being otherwise noisy. Remain in place, (unless you need to move to guard against physical assault), look directly at the yeller, and wait. When the attack starts to loose momentum, jump into the situation. Its hard to do but you need to interrupt in order to stand up for yourself, be loud and firm if they try to cut you off before you've finished your sentence. Calling them by name also gets their attention to listen to you. Next try to get them to sit down. Most people behave less aggressively when seated, its worth a try. Speaking your own point of view projects a self-assertive quality. Examples: "I disagree with you..". By using phrases like these, you have not told the other person what to do, how to feel or think, or even that they are wrong. Given the value of not retreating before the Aggressive's onslaught, it is important to avoid fighting to win. They are very good at fighting and its a bet that you will loose if trying to win the battle. Finally, with Hostile-Aggressives, when they have been stood up to but not personally defeated, may make friendly overtures to you. This curious turn of events has long been recognized in folk wisdom as "stand up to the bully and he'll become your friend". Being ready to be friendly, may be in your favor instead of acting angry. Although these turn of events is confusing- its been known to have a favorable outcome if you can hold back your anger towards them.
If you ever find classes being given on how to deal with "Difficult People" I highly recommend taking the class or classes, it has helped me tremendously!
Snakes I love.....used to catch them as a kid.
Difficult people don't bother me. Sometimes they amuse me. I often sort of admire and even like them in a way. I get to deal with quite a few of them at my work. I just chart on their behaviors and feel for the lack of control over their environment that they must feel... Mostly I'm "a duck" when dealing with them. Their words and actions just slide off my back.
And, hey, I've had worse in real life. Dealt with worse things that my mother or ex husband have said to me. Last time someone other then those two ever said anything that got to me was when someone told me how "proud they were of how their son was developing" while my own son was making nearly daily trips to the principal's office in kindergarten. (My kid's doing GREAT now....so well, not much else matters one way or other compared to that.)
And well that last, is one reason why I'll NEVER make fun of any of the more difficult people, and why my heart goes out to them... They, themselves are someone's child. They can't hurt me, but they can't make me hate them either...
Dogs i am very wary, i wouldnt say it was a phobia, It depends on the dog, tho one time i had a panic attack over a dog.
