Xmas rant
Ok, I understand for the Christian (and some non-Christians) this is the greatest time of the year. But please, STOP IT JAMMING DOWN EVERYONE'S THROAT! This is not the spiritual holiday that your Christ would condone. Just check the history of your religion. Christmas was outlawed by the Puritans and other Protestants denominations because it had lost it's spiritual focus. We have reached that point again. Christmas is now about nothing but capitalistic greed. Sure some people do good works for Christmas (red kettle campaign, etc) but if you really care about others, you would think about them the other 11 months out of the years too. Christ did.
I am not just ranting because Christmas as a kid sucked for me. As an adult, I have tried to rediscover holidays in a different light It worked in the 1990's. The holiday did not really hit until after Thanksgiving and I can deal with a month of over the top commercialism. But now it starts in September. Add the fact I am a pagan, and it gets down right disgusting. Don't get me wrong, following Christ is a good thing. He is a excellent role model more people should follow. More people should stop praying to Him and start acting like Him. But the Christians have stolen my holiday of Yule and turned it into a gift-giving, greed crazy pathetic excuse for a holiday. Yule should be about celebrating comfort of home, family, and friends in the darkest part of the year and the hope for the return of the light. We celebrate the solstices because it signals the daylight will be getting longer from that day forward. We appreciate nature and know that all things you do will come back to you in some form. This may be why I have such a problem with the modern Christmas greed. It has total disregard for nature, people and is just bad karma. Thankfully, it's almost over for another year. Maybe next year, I'll find a cave to hide in for 3 months.
