With Friends like These... (TW)

There is a friend of mine, well I say friend, but I am being forced to reassess that by my husband. He won't let me see her and I guess I can see why.

When I was seventeen she was with a boy training to be in the army. He had made friends with a fellow training soldier we'll call him C. Now she decided that I should talk to this C, get to know him as her boyf was bringing him up for a visit. We exchanged texts, I think I wrote to him a couple of times, nothing risque, just general penpal style communication. Anyway, the time came when they were coming up to visit. I went around to the house that My friend's boyf shared with another housemate and I was essentially left alone with C. Now I will admit, there was a kiss, I think I was flattered that he found me attractive, my self esteem has never been that great. He decided to take me into a bedroom and at this point I felt uncomfortable. I was bleeding at the time and was wearing a tampon and really wasn't in the mood for anything and I told him I didn't want to do anything more. He got angry, asked me why I thought he had travelled all this way. Then he said "F**k this, I'm going to do it anyway."And I froze. I didn't fight. I didn't even take my tampon out. My friend walked in, saw what he was doing to me and walked back out again. She must have seen me crying, I was facing her. She didn't get me help, just left him to it. Even worse was I had to go back the next morning, she had asked me to pick up her house key from her mum. When I went in, the only person awake was C. And he did it again. And again, there was a feminine hygiene product in the way. I convinced myself for a year that it was something I had wanted and it took me all that time to talk to someone, a counsellor, and realise that no, I hadn't. If I had, I would've removed certain items.

A few years later, I met this same friend for a drink in Leeds. I was drinking vodka and orange and we were by ourselves. I went to the bathroom and returned to find a fresh drink on my table, and two gentlemen had joined us. To be honest, they were good looking lads. I asked my friend if she had got me the drink and she said yes. I drank it and until very recently that was where my memory ended. I know she left me on my own with these two guys, I know I woke up in a hotel room, alone and hurting and I know I had the most awful hangover of my life, but I hadn't drunk that much. I also know that someone sent my mum a text from my phone saying I wouldn't be going home.

I don't speak to her anymore.

I\'m sorry those things happened to you. What terrible experiences. What a terrible friend. I\'m glad you are beyond that now and know you deserve better.
