Windows open and birds singing
I live in the house that I grew up in while going to high school in this rural Kansas town of just 600. Jeff made arrangements for us to buy it from my parents when they built their new house just 5 blocks from here.
Our original draw to this house was of course, it was the house I grew up in. And the thought of being able to spend time raising the boys in this house really appealed to Jeff. But also, it was a much nicer home that I had been living in while raising my boys as a single Mom for 10 years.
Our favorite room in the house is the sunroom. There are widows all around the room and one wall is just doors that open onto the deck. Every winter and spring we made sure the bird feeders stayed full and we'd sit and watch and listen.
Today my Mom came over to visit and we sat in the sunroom. I had opened the doors and a few windows so that the breeze of the 74 degree day could reach us and remind us how great Spring in Kansas can be. The birds were all feasting on the seed I had spread this morning. The little yellow and red house finch were in full force. And our favorite, the pair of cardinals, were singing off in the distance and eventually showed up to eat too.
I told my Mom that this is what Jeff would have been doing today and I was glad she was there sharing it with me.
